Mobile Cameras and Marked Police Car
Discussion
I was parked up on the A40 today in a fully marked Traffic car directly behind one of these camera vans and you would not believe what i saw.!!!!!!
3 cars a minute were being zapped at more than 15mph over the speed limit.
Quite honestly, i could not and would not have believed it had i not witnessed it for myself.
What does this say for the speeding motorist....in my opinion, they either didnt see the Fully Marked Police car parked right by the side of the road (which is very worrying
)
OR
They didnt care and were simply taking the P$$s.
Hope that they dont come winging on here or i will have something to say

Probably using their bloody mobiles as well mate. Stupid idiots they are.
Deserve to get tugged. Some of them have so little forward vision and hazard perception, its an absolute miracle they even lasted this long.
You know me, im not a great fan of the system and cams and stuff like that in particular, but like you said, they wernt even seeing you.
Carry on nicking the stoopid feckers Tonyrec, ya got my vote mate.

0% percent chance mate.
If these pricks aint even seeing a fully liveried cop car AND a camera van, then they deserve sod all sympathy. They wont get any from me, they should have their eyes wide open, but it would seem theyre half a bloody sleep.
I see it every single day, idiots not using indicators, others with a phone in one ear and a can in the other, steering with their knees, speed freakers with no idea at all about speed...they deserve to be screwed for 3 points and 60 quid.
These twerps never learn.

Personally, I'm increasingly finding it dificult to observe the road and its inherent hazards along with the twenty other things at the side of the road that are after taxing me some more
.
btw 20 years and not even a parking ticket, so I must be doing something right on the observational bits
, because NSL is definately for guidance and not adherence in my book.

Ive just been told that this Talivan dished out 325 tickets on this one day in and around the A40.
I find it hard to be believe that 325 drivers couldnt have slowed down a bit. The van itself is very brightly coloured and was parked at the side of the road.
Someone will be happy....by my calculations thats £19,500 for the government.
I wonder how much will be spent on road improvements?

But far too much time is spent nowadays looking for the specs/gatso/truvelo/scamera van/cop hiding in a bush than is spent concentrating on the actual driving.
Perhaps the people should have been given an eye test instead?
And how can deltaf have the cheek to start praising the scamera van when he is usually the one most vocal in mouthing off about them?
You cheeky chappy!

You cheeky chappy!A police battenburg parked behind the Talivan eh. Were you there to protect the occupants from motorists out for vengeance?
Nice to hear that your Talivan is clearly marked. Those in our area have orange/yellow chevrons on the rear doors only. Problem is, they have taken to parking sideways on to the road being targeted. No markings visible this way, hence more revenue. This county is in the hypothecation scheme.
One of their favourite perches even has double yellows. Not that it deters their activities.
I wonder - would any of the police officers on here stop and move on Talivans plying their trade whilst illegally parked.

It would be very difficult to move them on especially as we are supposed to be playing for the same side dont you think?
It makes me think though, how many more would be caught if the van was hiding.
I honestly thought that it would not catch anyone with us being there for 10mins BUT i was wrong
I note that its been said that there must have been 40 crashes during that time....lets not go there
but i would like to point out that in the last 7 Fatal crashes that ive attended, speed has been a major factor.......and that ladies and gentlemen is a fact.

I think there is a lot of truth in what you say SpudGunner.
I am sure that some of these numpties that do 38mph in a NSL zone are only driving that speed because of their poor eyesight, and the fact that they have never bothered to get their eyes tested. I am serious about this.
Ledfoot.....you do have a very valid point.
There are a high proportion of drivers who would fail an eyesight test and now as a matter of course, every driver who is involved in a serious RTA gets to take a roadside eyesight test.
Did you know that the distance has been reduced by half a metre to cater for the new style Index plates?

As suspected. Yet again the spectre of "One rule for you, another for us" is raised. You really are a sickening bunch of hypocrites. And you expect respect from the public!
brigadier
Thats exactly the sort of remark you would expect from a class 1 nobber!
I think that youre on the wrong forum whoever you are.!
All any of us can be on here is very honest. To clarify the situation, obviously if the Talivan was dangerously parked then it would have to be repositioned...thats only common sense and i feel its a bit strange to have to explain this point!
We are all supposed to be one big happy family on here but YOU do insist on putting us in a them against us situation WHICH I DONT LIKE.

tonyrec,
Serious question - was speed a major factor in the cause of the accidents, or in causing the fatalities, given the accident happened?
Neil,
Yes, speed was a major factor in the fatal accidents..or should i say collisions.
The nature of our job leads us to report the most serious of collisions but im not denying that also bad driving comes into the equation as well.
The only thing that i will say about the speed aspect is that if the vehicles involved had been travelling at the speed limits then there would be a greater chance of regaining control/limiting the seriousness of the injuries or damage sustained.
Its been said many times on here and i have to agree with it...right car, right speed and right conditions no problem apart from the fact that its against the law.

Im not trolling or trying to start one here but this does sound like the exact definition of the "One rule for them, one rule for us" clause really....
If ANYTHING is parked illegally exept for an emergency service vehicle then they should get a ticket. So why should a civilian / bib in a van get away with it especially since they are NOT on an emergency call?
Check the ABD website and you will find that a copper in wales gave a talivan a ticket for parking illegally.
Also a question for those of you in the legal know out there, is there not something in the law about prosecuting on evidence that has been gained whilst breaking the law?
I do agree with what you are saying and i certainly dont think that they should be parking illegally but on the wider scale of things.... if a Talivan was parked on a grass verge (illegal) at a proper accident blackspot (not one for the dreaded statistics) then i wonder how many Traffic Cops would move it on.
After all...off duty i can just as easily get caught as you can.
