Is there anyone out there who has been referred to a driver improvement scheme as an alternative to summons for a Without Due Care type offence.???
I'd like to know what you thought of it, i.e. was it worthwhile ? did you learn anything ? or did you just do it because it was cheaper than going to court. ??

The only scheme that I heard about a while ago in the news was only giving drivers exceeeding the 30 limit by 4 or 5 miles an hour on the driver improvement scheme.

Therefore little billy ****wit 100mph in a 30 in reverse who would probably benefit would get a NIP or a short ban then get back in his Nova and rag it round again afterward, and the average joe who made a simple error one day gets to go on a course which may improve his driving but is not needed as much as the aforementioed ****wit.

Almost pointless really.

I'd like to go on one, but I'm not prepared to do anything dangerous enough to qualify for free

Why dont the police start to run courses for drivers who WANT to learn better car control and hazard awareness?
Id gladly PAY for the opportunity to get some training in to see how "bad" i actually am.
But id only like to go on something run by da plods!
Any ideas?

We are doing something in London at the moment called Bikesafe.
Obviously it is only for motorcyclists but it is in that vein, with a lecture and two asessment rides.
The closest you'll get in a car at the moment is probably an IAM (I AM) asessment, alot of IAM asessors are serving taffic officers.
It is certainly a good idea, I might suggest it to my boss. (he needs improving)

They're not free!
The last time I saw (about 6 yrs ago) and not from personal experience I might add they were £75 for a half day course, or take you're chance with the courts. Still if you value a clean licence and more importantl clean insurance....well worth it.
