Probation staff have been told to stop putting up signs saying street work is being carried out by convicts - or forcing them to wear bright yellow jackets branded 'Community Payback' because their feelings might be hurt.

Instead, a small plaque will be erected long after they've gone, to avoid offending their delicate sensibilities.

Of course, some convicts working in the open air will still have to wear high-visibility jackets - because it's required by Health and Safety legislation ... but without any indication that they are convicts.

Which makes you feel better, seeing a 'chain-gang' at work or viewing a plaque (for however long it remains unvandalised) informing you of the good work done by convicts? I know which I prefer.

Why is it convicts have human rights and sensibilities that must be respected, and not the rest of us?

Because convicts:-
a) Get legal aid, usually; and
b) Get the attention of a lot of Human-Rights lawyers who get paid by shafting HM gov't (i.e. they get our taxes), and have as a result got rather good at it.

Whereas Joe Public:-
a) Has to pay for his own solicitors;
b) Is of no cost or benefit to the gov't, so is ignored; and
c) Has no effing rights anymore!!!

Black overalls whilst working at night on fast roads picking up litter. Oh, and yes and leg chains connecting them together, so if one gets taken our by an LGV the others get dragged along!

The answer is simply, don't let them out for this, keep them inside.

Give the job to the doleits, so they can feel appreciated for taking free money.
