Nights tonight...
Discussion
With apologies to all my full-shift-working, uniform colleagues on here, but I'm on nights tonight (all weekend in fact).
I work from 1800-0400... or until I finish, depending on what jobs come in.
I am the night DC, covering for the entire Division. I report to the night duty DI (one DI for the entire County).
So, I shall have initial resonsibility for investigating:
Any unexplained death.
Any sexual offence.
Serious assaults.
Fatal/serious fail to stop RTAs.
Missing persons intelligence/background checks.
"Serious" offences - aggravated UTMV, aggravated burglary, robbery etc etc.
Additionally, I can also be deployed anywhere in the County, at the night DI's discretion, if a serious event (see above) happens in another Division, and more resources are required.
If I'm not tied up on any of the above, I'll be doing stop checks and bail checks, and I'll also back up colleagues at the more usual jobs that come in on nights - it often helps to have an extra pair of hands/eyes/ears at a job.
I'll keep you posted about what I get up to.

Having you got anything better to do - cathcing robbers / rapists / car thieves???

ETA: Yes - it is indeed a fair cop. I'm leaving the above post as a lesson to anyone who tries to be funny without reading what they have written.
Bugger. It even hurts my eyes reading it.

Nights? Your avin a larff mate!I work from 1800-0400... or until I finish, depending on what jobs come in.
I am on lates for three days,
Last night, that started at 1600 and is rostered through to 0200
Tonight and tomorrow we are rostered 1600 to 0300.
Management have a system for the town centre drunk patrol whereby the late shift keep the patrol responsibility until 0230 hours.
Night turn come on at 2200 and then twiddle their thumbs for an hour before wandering into the town and supervising the fleet of ambulances taking away yooves who have had two pints of 'Mans beer'
Lates for me and my team means 1600 to 0700 or later as at 0230 the night turn are back in the nick to take over the patrol cars but we are still attending DV stuff and the rest of the weekend shenanigans that are reported at 0215 and 0230.
On Sunday, I start night shift until Wednesday!
Last night we had a stabbing at 12.00 and my lot were still dealing with it when I left at 0300. No one wants to pay then overtime either, Its like squeezing blood from a stone to get it authorised.
Hope you have a good late shift Dibble,

I have to say I didn't realise how knackered I was all the time until I came off full shifts.
The "nights" I do know bugger me up for days.
And just for you mg6b, the last set I did involved a shooting, so instead of finishing at 0200 (rostered 1600-0200 that night for COurt the next day at 0900), I actually finsihed at 1030...
Of course, it will either be quiet as the grave, or mad rush flat out late finishes...

Is there some nights, where you at on the go 24/7 and other nights that its not to bad? Or is it normally really busy all the time?
Yep. However, sometimes you can have a relatively quiet Friday night but a really mad early shift on a Wednesday or something.
Very random sometimes.
One of our local councillors recently went out with the police on a Saturday night in the Medway Council area. He reckons that there were 22 officers on duty to cover a population area of 250,000 people. Is that typical?
As a matter of interest, I just checked my council tax bill, and I am paying 10% of the total £1,500 p.a. bill for this service.
7.
Edited to add: not sure if the 22 were all "real" officers either.

Don't forget about the MLM's and foglights
Unfortunately, "not my part of ship" any more.
My only prisoner for the night was a female drink driver (arrseted by me s4 RTA - suspicion of driving while unfit through drink/drugs), who blew 105 at the station, legal limit is 35, so she was 3x over.

Yes, of course you will.Dibble, not tied up later tonight...

You can't imagine the look of confusion on the night sergeant's face when I turned in for the 2100 briefing. He asked me who I was and what I was doing... don't think he's ever seen a night DC on his parade before!
