where have all the police gone have a look at this

Yep you may be amazed by this but the police need to eat as well. You may also be anazed but if one is going to have lunch then the others also need to have lunch at the same time to prevent them stopping again and again for lunch breaks. So if there is 10 or 20 officers in a van they would all go at the same time.
Well, if you have 1000 patrolling police officers, taking into account 3 shifts a day, you have 333 cops available. Then take into account days off, so you get 250. Now say 80% of the time they are filling in reports, you have 50 officers on the streets. Then taking into account the donuts and munchies, that drops to around 35.
So for every 1000 active police officers on the payroll, there are only 35 actually policing at any one time!
No wonder you rarely see one! (not including the amount of those 35 who are interviewing school bullies regarding pushing someone or saying a naughty word)
(Probably exagerating a little, but probably close to the truth - even worse with Bush and his troop 'surge', since those troops include all the ones that run the infrastructure (cooks, builders etc).

Surely our Police Officers, as part of an Establishment concerned that we, the Population, eat healthily, do not eat "Take away" type, salt laden, saturated fat laden, additive laden, excessively processed "food"?
I am shocked.
Er, since when did they ever attempt to set an example! If that was the case, they wouldn't exceed the speed limit ever except in a genuine emergency. Just because they are allowed to by law, doesn't mean they should! (I'm thinking of all the patrol cars cruising the motorways at 80 here). Pause to think if their actions set a good example? Don't think so!I am shocked.
Next you'll expect them to know what the difference is between something that's legal and something that's illegal - quite a few (from personal experience) clearly don't know, or believe it's okay to make-up laws adhoc rather than enforce the ones set out by statutes made in Parliament!

I've done some stuff with the police. These days in Manchester they're encouraged to eat out while on the streets. For a few years before that, they'd been instructed to eat inside the police station (presumable to stop the odd copper from being given a free dinner in return for a favour).
The modern idea is that its better for people and shopkeepers to be able to interact with the police more easily. Friendly chit-chat and a visible presence. I think its a much better way of doing things.

The downside (for the BiB) is that you never get any "down" time - I must have wasted hundreds of pounds over the years on meals I didn't get to finish. The modern idea is that its better for people and shopkeepers to be able to interact with the police more easily.
