30mph limit in my village; went past the camera with my digital speedo oscillating between 28 and 30 and the damned thing flashed!

There was a Moggy Minor in front, doing the same speed, and a car going past in the opposite direction - doing over 30.

Could the camera have become confused? I'm 99% sure I was doing under 35 and as I understand it would have been set at 10% + 2. I'm 95% certain I was under 30.

Any thought son this one?

And should I await the S172 and if it comes through, fight it (I have 10 bloody points)? Or be proactive and write to the Dorset Constabulary?

You won't (shouldn't) get anything through the post.

Where are you based? Our local scammers are rather renowned for not double checkage the lineage/distances in the images wink

the older gatso cameras can be set off by driving towards them, ive done it a few times. so its likely it was the car coming the other way that triggered it. i bet you dont hear anything, the same sort of thing has happened to me a few times & ive never heard a thing.

I'm sure they would find that hilarious.

Thanks guys, that's put my mind at rest a bit. Bloody spoilt my curry though; that's where I'd been - collecting a takeaway.

Yeah, Dorset Cap'n S. Just north of Ringwood, barely inside the Dorset border.

Been sitting here trying to figure out if I could have been over anyway; misread the speedo, gone through a timewarp, been following a V12 Morris Minor.....

I'll enjoy my beer now.

Cheers, Mr Worry.

I have to say that if I was on 10 points I'd be terrified of driving anywhere and can't imagine I'd be nipping out to get a takeaway. If I had to drive I'd be going past 30MPH cameras at 25.

Takeaway is 5 miles away and weren't delivering as the roads around them were closed for a carnival.

And I probably was doing 25 if my speedo read 28.

Well stop worrying then!

Reminds me of one of those Police programmes where Bib was lasering people from a motorway junction bridge - one guy came back and stopped and asked Bib if he'd zapped him. "How fast were you going?" asked Bib. "Oh, about 60MPH" said the motorist (driving a Volvo 340 and wearing a long mac), "but I wondered if I might have crept a bit higher"!
Bib was cursing as he missed several cars flashing through while the guy was talking to him. biggrin

The lines on the road will show how fast you were going. Even if you get something through the post - an examination of the photo should save you...

Sounds like it was the other guy.

My speedo always reads 1mph over Tomtom. You should be fine if reading <30mph.

Don't the speed readings on photos from Gatsos have a + or - sign in front of the speed, depending on whether the vehicle is moving away from or towards the camera?

You're thinking about mobile traps.

Gatso's (and ONLY Gatso's NOT the truvello) will only flash you in the face if they're empty: no camera. They aren't type approved for oncoming traffic.

Good way to test their "trip limit" though. smile

Nope, I'm thinking of the Gatso (not mobile or Truvelo) and, yes, I'm aware that they are not type approved to 'catch' oncoming traffic (in this country).
However, as has been pointed out they can & do flash oncoming traffic. Therefore there should (must ?) be somehow able to diffentiate between vehicles travelling towards or away from the camera. For example, you have two cars 'in shot' in a 30 limit. One moving away at say, 34mph the other towards at 35mph. The trigger speed of the camera is 35mph. I doubt that anyone viewing the photos would be able to tell the difference between a car travelling at 34mph and one at 35mph just by comparing how far the vehicle had moved between calibration marks.

Which is why they probably aren't approved for oncoming traffic.

I was flashed at 33mph 11 days ago in a 40 limit, it spoilt my weekend and I have been anxiously checking the post daily.
