Righty ho, friend of mine (no really, not me) got himself caught on the A1M on Friday evening. Fair cop, he was doing the speed, and got caught by a marked T5 as the motorways merged up near York. Bad observations comments all round, but a fair cop, he's not going to fight the almost certain ban.
Two questions then...
1) Verbally informed that it would take about four months to work its way through to a summons stage. Can this be expedited, so as to ensure that the case is wrapped up by January 2008?
2) Light on the above question would be "Does a driving ban in the UK continue to be a ban if the license holder isnt in the UK". Not a "can he drive over there" one, but there has been a suggestion that being out of the UK could cause the ban to be paused till he gets back.
Thanks for the good solid information that's always forthcoming.

Presumably he was headed north on the new bit?
Lovely bit of road, and I can't say that he'd be the first person I knew who had done more than 115mph on that stretch of road.
DVLA don't care if you are in or out of the country, the ban runs with no breaks - this would mean you couldn't drive on your UK licence abroad, but I don't know if you could still apply to sit a foreign test and get another licence (if you were eligible).

(1) Speak to CPS dealing with the case. They have the power to fast forward for an early hearing. I would suspect that they will be delighted with a Guilty plea.
(2) Other countries have similar rules to ours in that a visitor can drive on their domestic licence providing it is current. Problem in this case is that a disqualification is in the offing which as yet will not apply elsewhere in EEC other than UK, NI, Channel Isle. The Driving Licence will be taken away during the ban so one has nothing to show so an effective ban in itself.

If "one" is going abroad for an extended period, "one" can just get a license there if "one" lives there as well.
Friend of mine did the same in Ireland. Just sat another test there ("Please drive to the roundabout and back sir"
, passed it for a couple of hundred Euro's and now has two licenses.
