Carrying kids in front seat of van ??
Discussion
I have a '78 Series III Land Rover with three seats across the front. The rear seats are inward facing side benches. Only the outer front seats have belts, which is legal for this age of car and seating layout. When I carry my 4 year old daughter in the LR, she travels in the front passenger seat in a correctly fitted child seat. The seat is designed to use the adult belt. I believe that..
1) this is the safest position for her to travel
2) this is legal
3) it is legal for her to travel in the rear seats (I choose not to do this)
Not the definitive you are after, but we have been seen many times by local BiB and not had any indication that that this is illegal.

the pikeys seem to get away with it ,but who cares if they lose a few in crashes ?
Our neighbours do it. He's got a small Citroen (car-sized) van, which I don't think has 3 front seats, yet I regularly see him with BOTH his kids (c.11 and c.6/7) in the van, and once saw him going to the van with THREE kids. Oh, and no child seats to be seen......but then he is a scummy lazy sullen b'gger...
