Having avoided all the french could throw at us speed-limit enforcement wise we returned to blighty without exchanging too many euros. However, driving through Brighton at midnight (empty straight road) we were double flashed by that most hated dutch object. We must have been going *JUST* above 30 in a 30limit road.

Anyone who knows my dad will know that he NEVER speeds in cities/ on motorways in the UK ever. This has to be a close call and he would like to know what we can do to argue our case. It must be a borderline thing, so we surely mus be able to ask for calibration dates/ flash speeds etc etc?? Does anyone out there in PH know of any tips or tricks to get out of the points or know a way of proving the speed camera to be innaccurate??

He has so far kept a clean liscense and fears that any points will hit both insurance premiums hard. He currently insures a Cerbera and a Smart (with me as a named driver) and is paying somewhere in the region of £2300 p.a. atm. Any rises in premiums would be unbareable.

Thanks for any advice you may have,
Ben CA

Have a search about the not signing loophole.

However, 3 points is unlikely to make any difference to your insurance.

My wife got Gatso'd a couple of years back. 3pts/£40 (at the time). It put nearly £80 on MY insurance (coz she's a named driver)

Wasn't happy.

oh very funny. I own a Smart, a 307, a bike, and a VX220 turbo. Smart car is still a good motor. Anyone who dared travel in mine would see how quick they can be. Stop laughing indeed.

First speeding offence usually doesn't affect insurance premiums.

When I got 5 points, 5 years ago, it didn't put the insurance up at all. I think the same still applies now. But god help you if you get a second ticket.

SHHH dont tell them, I dont want these muppets knowing how good it is I love my smart to bits and cant think of a better first car. Its plenty quick enough and mines standard, if I wanted I could have 80 odd bhp pretty easily

Oh and all the girls stare at my car they all seem to love it.

The first offence adds roughly 25% to the cost of your premium, 6 points about 50%.

I think i got that i remember reading it a long time ago. My 3 points (TS10) added between £60 to £100 onto my polivy depending on the insurers
