Any London radio listeners out there...
Discussion
Just been driving through London and an advert was on the radio to inform the public about the "Truth on Speed Cameras". Any one heard this one?
The announcer read out questions such as "do you think cameras are painted grey so you can't see them", "do you think cameras are there to raise revenue", "do you think cameras are placed to catch the most people". I won't bother answering these.
But the ad goes on to give you the real truth which as we all know is that they are yelloe so we can see them early, they don't make money (it is all ploughed back into road safety) and 95% are in accident hot spots.
And the tag line.....
"even if you don't like them, speed cameras save lives"
(aparently Londons cameras are directly responsible for a 35% decline in road deaths)
Trouble is it was well done and people will just eat up the stats as real. But are they admitting that 5% of cameras are not in black spots and therefore should be removed?

Yep, this ad was on a lot a few months back, then it disappeared for a while. I was hoping it had been pulled by order of the ASA due to its deliberately misleading claims. But no such luck - it's back with an absolute vengeance. In the mornings on Capital FM, it seems to be on in practically every ad break.
"If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth."

So the introduction of airbags and abs at the same time of camera's hasn't made any difference then?
In Oxfordshire and M25 crashes went UP!
Deaths decreased due to airbags and ABS.
Anyone got the advertising standards e-mail? If we all complain it might get kicked off.

can't we complain to the advertising authority about the ad ??

What a good idea. Have found out it is the radio authority not the ASA and they even have a complaint for on their web site
www.radioauthority.org.uk/regulation/complaints/complaints-main.html
Lets see how many we can give them!
