Hey, I don't know if anyone can help.

I may have accidently gone over on a red light (I thought it was amber and I was pretty much over the line, going 30mph and the road was very wet) and I was wondering if anyone knew the penalty or the cost of a fine.

None of the boxes on the top of traffic lights are cameras - they are radar detectors to call or extend the signal timings.

The Circled one is the Traffic Light Gatso.

The Circled one is the Traffic Light Gatso.
And it's not fixed to the traffic lights - that photo is looking aunder the lights at the separate gatso behind.

The thing on top is the radar detector I described earlier - that IS fixed to the lights.

Did the camera flash - if not then no problems.
Was there another car behind you ? Did that set off the camera ?

If ther is another car behind you and you set off the camera you can claim that you continued to avoid being shunted.

cheers for clearing that up. i take it the lights which have the CCTV type cameras sticking out (with the radar) are the ones which can "get" you?

To the best of my knowledge, these are the only unmanned/automated devices approved to detect red Traffic light offences:

The Gatso, as shown in the posts above.

The Traffiphot III

And the Monitron Red Speed, which doubles as both a speed camera and a red-light camera:

So what was it that flashed as I went over?

It was accidental on my behalf, I know I can sit here and say that but I believed it to have just changed to amber was pretty much over the line on a wet road when it was still raining going at 30mph. There wasn't anyone behind me so admittedly I could have stopped.
