Asking me to call them re: an alleged road rage incident. A letter? Is this normal?

Does the OIC want to give me (or whoever the driver was) a rollocking over the phone??

Could be as simple as making an appointment to see you to get your side of the story. This is common practice so don't look too deeply into it.

I'll tell you exactly what I'll say to him...

"I have no idea what you're talking about".

Probably some one perceived you had cut them up.. or they cut you up and you may have stuck up a finger nono

wink

Or did someone BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPP a horn around you and whoever reported it - thought it was you? Or took down the wrong car reg... rolleyes

Not sure whether your best ploy would be to call to find out what it was about, and this would give you chance to refute whatever -

or wait until BiB call to follow up this letter - as they might do dependent on what's been alleged.

Hope you were not driving near ex-poster on Paul's site yikes We had some fun on Paul's site with this guy and his "hidden cameras to report us all for lousy driving" laugh (He got a bit abusive so Paul torpedoed him wink)

Give the OIC a call, you don't have to commit to anything on the phone just find out what it is all about.

Letter will be because OIC has had trouble contacting you, maybe they have been to your house once or twice and you were out, or because it makes best use of the OIC's time. You may even be regarded as a witness?

If it was a serious incident I would have thought that you would have been arrested, without the letter, for a public order offence/assault/dangerous driving.

If minor - verbal warning or you may be invited, and it is invited, to take part in an interview as part of the investigation which could result in a summons. If you were not involved then it is in your interest to take part.

You won't know which way it will pan out until you call them, unlikely it will go away if you ignore it.

Curiosity killed the cat......... Ignore it. They know where you are, if it's important they'll come looking for you.

More and more nowadays I'm tending towards: "People in Authority are not my friends, and they do not have my best interests at heart".

Kinda sad to be getting soooo cynical. frown

I once had the police calling me about a supposed hit and run in a vehicle that was registered to me. The vehicle had been lent to a colleague who subsequently had one of his people use it, and walloped a car with it.

I just told them exactly what I knew, and the truth. I think the idea is, if you're telling porkies then you do tend to deviate every time they call. not good to ignor I don't think.
You never deviate if telling the truth however, as the truth is the truth, and this is very apparent to the officer on the phone.

The phone calls finally dried up, and the vehicle was sold to my colleague anyway.

Think you'd know if it was serious.

If I have nothing to do with whatever 'it' is... I'll remain as innocent until they need me. My feelings are that I have better things to do with my time.

By the sounds of it thay do need you hence the calling card/letter/whatever it is you got. If it an urgent enquiry it may be better to phone in sooner rather than later and have an early morning door knock. My Spidey Sence is tingling and I think you have an idea what this is all about...

Better hope they don't turn up at your work, arrest you & make you sit in the cell for a good few hours before interviewing you then.

They are trying to contact you in order to speak to you it would seem, presumably at a mutually convenient time. If you ignore that & if it is in respect to an alleged offence, then they may not then be inclined to worry about whether it's convenient for you if you ignore their attempts at contact.

If it was anything serious you would have been served with a NIP, not sent a letter.

It may not be a traffic offence alleged, if we are talking road rage.

Fair point but it wouldn't make sense to alert the OP if it was alleged that he'd done something. Surely it would be far better to catch someone unannounced so they don't have time to make up a story/alibi confused
