There was a recent post about a flashing speed limit sign being turned off before appearance of scamera van, I didn't think that the scum would sink that low.
Sunday there was a technician at the sign in my village and when he left the sign was not working! Today (Tuesday) 'low and behold' there is a scamera van operating.
I presume that the signs are sited, where they are, for safety reasons and to disable, them in an attempt, to increase revenue I find cynical in the exteme.
The fact that they would pay weekend rates to have the signs disabled is, in itself, astounding.
Is this a common practice?

I would alert the local newspaper or The Daily Mail or The Sun to it.

I wouldn't put it past the scamera pigs to do this? the next time I see one when I am driving my lorry I am going to pull up right in it's view and make out I have broke down with an airline/brake problem then tell them they can "do one" when they ask me to move biggrin

I have been told that they actually never do speed checks when the signs are working, i.e. they ALWAYS do it when the signs are off. One of those busybodies (read: neighbourhood community speed nuisance person) told me that.

There was a flashing sign on the entrance to the village where I live which was knocked down when something ran into it earlier this year - I never did manage to find out if anyone was hurt in this accident involving a safety sign. However, this was shortly before speed cameras were installed slightly further along the road. When I questioned about the flashing sign I was told they were looking to replace it. Strangely, that was about 4 months ago and the sign has still not been replaced, but the cameras are installed and functioning....

Muse mode - ON

Could it be that the 'intelligence' from the Matrix Speed Warning indicated that familiarity bred contempt and it was not doing what it was supposed to.

Hence the need to bring in the heavy guns for a period to restore normality?

Muse mode - OFF

Because otherwise they'd have to prosecute their own sign for perverting the course of justice. hehe

Turned back on, on Thursday, looks like a two day turn around on switching, which is something to bear in mind for the future, i.e.when flashing sign goes off, watch out for scamera van the 'day after tomorrow'

I have always believed that speed cameras etc have nothing to do with safety, and are there solely to generate revinue.

This confirms my belief. Then again, I am not supprised... this being rip-off Britain and all rolleyes

Maybe, just maybe.... the sign was off because it needed work doing to it, how about that?

One of the reasons may be that if there is a speed indicated it may be in conflict with the speed indicated in the offences issued.

Of course you could say that it will indicate errors in the approved device however, the most likely errors are in the speed indicator device being unapproved and not all that accurate.

Of course I could be a bit cynical and say that it is amazing how keepers can remember with great detail how fast they were going but not be so clear about who was driving at the time.

I think the reason it will be turned off is to remove possible conflict between speed readings between the 2 devices.
