A few round my way that need something done, been here a number of years and seemingly exempt from speeding / roadtax / mot and probably insurance. Iknow the limit is 6 months but these people are taking the proverbial.

Apparently there are numerous ways around the 6 month law from lease hire to business useage. So i dont know if this is applicable to the vehicles you see but they maybe using a legal loophole!

Herts, I live in Kings Lynn Norfolk and there are bloody scensoredt loads of them in the town. The road that I live in with my fiance has about 4 or 5 families of the eastern european kind (1 family is spot on to be fair) and for reason's only known to themselves they insist on driving big old german cars. 5 and 7 series beemers, c class mercs etc. All of them are divoid of road tax and, as you say, most likely insurance too. I'd go down the route of the dvla website to report an untaxed car. Also as well as this I would pop down to your local BiB shop and personally report it too. If that fails, contact the council as well as they can remove vehicles.

There a number of countries that do not invalidate insurance if the car has not passed control ( MOT ).
Also some europe countries do MOT on a yearly basis . And some countries award MOT's for the car arriving under its own power at the local pub .

Side issie the state of some of these HGV from some countries is scary lost count of the number of time I have been badly smoked by a heavy .

Now there is a question for the BiB or other clever person . If a HGV arrives from for example from Poland does the driver have to stop smoking in the cab when he arrives at Dover under the new UK smokie rules ?

If the cars are registered abroad, how can you expect them to pay road tax here? How do you know that they have no insurance either? Getting a bit far fetched with your comments, maybe? rolleyes

Just FYI, on the German / Polish border for example, every Polish driver has to produce a Green Card, which covers him for 3d Party Insurance throughout the EU, before the Polizei waves him through. In Bulgaria for example, you cannot tax the car, unless you buy a Green Card with your insurance. BTW, the number of taxed cars is significantly higher in Eastern Europe as they have trafpol (corrupt, yes, but at least on the road) and not scameras like here...

You should see the number of <125cc bikes running around London on foreign plates, often Italian. Now, I bet they didn't get ridden all the way here, and who would bother importing a few hundred quid's worth of moped - more accurately, would hundreds of people all think it worth importing a few hundred quid's worth of moped? I think not - so they're scamming something, whether it be tax, insurance, scameras, or all three.....

Good point and I wasn't really aware nor did I make myself aware of those facts. I guess its a natural assumption that can be made because we, as british drivers, are constantly reminded about the concequences of not having a road fund licence. Another good point about the trafpol. I've seen loads about lately but they were only out directing cars to do a bloody traffic survey!rolleyes

Hmmmm was watching some traffic in Peterborough whilst chatting to the Service Manager at a local BMW Motorrad dealer. I have never seen so many left hand cars in my life [apart from when I go abroad]. Best of all, they all drive in the wrong lane at some point FFS. At the nearest junction, they were turn right from the right hand lane on a two way street banghead

And tonite I was entering a roundabout with both lanes going straight on, only to be "honked" by some bint and her fella in a LHD car because I was in the lane to the right of them.

Unfortunately, the police car behind chose to ignore the incident and even after I offered to put their steering wheel into the dark place [yes he could see my frustration!!!]

Long live the revolution!! furious

If they pop out the country for a day, does it reset the 6 month thing?

Well, as The Health Act 2006 provides for the national authority to make regulations for (work) vehicles to be smoke-free and AFAIK no such regulations have been made, they must stop smoking. Indeed, IIRC, they are not allowed to smoke once the ferry comes inside the territorial limit (unless on deck) - Streaky

I think the police have to prove 'normal residency' and that is the country you live in for 180 days a year.

If a foreign resident keeps an address in their home country, it will need quite a lot of policing and work to make a case.

There is little doubt it will help road safety if the police made a massive campaign to check everyone, but it is unlikely they will do so unless the driver is involved in a bad and costly accident, or is suspected of income tax evasion.

This is very short term policing and politics, for as it continues the ' if you can't beat them, join them' mentality develops, and more and more drive illegaly and on false plates and papers.
