Heard 13 traffic cars on this road today sorting out speeders - presumably nothing to do with the sunshine, nice day, lack of other jobs to do. Anyone experience the hospitality?

Yep my missus (who is already on 6 points) regularly travels to Colwyn Bay / Llandudno.

She had a freak as she thought she'd collected another 3 brownie points for doing an indicated 72mph in a 70 limit. When I pointed out that the speedo overreads, and she was within the tolerance of the ACPO limits she calmed down a bit.

She also mentioned that there were some "non-Arrive Alive" vans plus tow-trucks, so I'm guessing they were ANPR vans, with the trucks ready to haul offenders vehicles off to the compound to swell the coffers on tow-away fees & storage.

Bet they had an absolute field day, especially on Rhuallt Hill, where apparently every slip road on / off had a van & traffic car.

I've seen a few instances of the ANPR vans and lots (and lots) of traffic cars further down the road pulling cars over. It's not always about speeding!

They take non-taxed, non-insured vehicles. And vehicles if they have to take the driver for something else.
Seems reasonable?

You didn't detect the sarcasm in my comment re: swelling the coffers.

Reasonable? Yes,I agree that these type of vehicles need removing from our roads, and sooner rather than later.

From what the missus was saying there were approx 30 traffic cars, vans etc. A bit OTT IMHO.

Are you disagreeing that there are lots of uninsured cars, or just trying to big yourself up? Or both?

There are rather a lot of uninsured, un-taxed and unroadworthy cars out there. Better the Police proactively get them off the roads than to rely on speed cameras to just point points on licences instead, I'd say.

Sorry - missed that. smile
I think once in a while a proper hit on these people is reasonable. Think of it this way - if Brunstrom's got all his boys/girls in one place, the poor law abiding simple speeder is getting off elsewhere in the "manor".......

Neither, I'm genuinely interested to know what percentage of cars on the road, are untaxed, uninsured or unroadworthy.

No apology needed, just a simple question raised by VH's comment that's all :-)

Jeez yikes

Are these mainly young drivers who can't / won't afford the (no doubt) ridiculous premiums?

5%....TBH I was expecting it to be higher than that, nearer the 10% mark.

About 10% are illegal, of which about 5% will be uninsured.

If it's 1 in 20 how come I've never yet seen anyone getting pulled when I've gone through an ANPR setup?

I've been through a good half dozen. Do they just log the numbers and follow up through the post or use those police cars to stop them up the road?

Surely I'd have seen at least one light up either just ahead or just behind me.

eta: or could it be yet more government BS justifying the Big Brother insatiable demand for movement/positional databases? Don't forget 30% of accidents were caused by speed before they got found out, 5% of vehicles are uninsured could very well be coming from the same propaganda and misinformation department couldn't it?

Maybe they were in "nice" areas? A few times I've seen impounded cars lined up waiting for recovery trucks to take them. Like shooting fish in a barrel.
