So I was just wondering from our PH BiBs, what is the law on a civilian detaining a criminal?

Let's say someone caught bang-to-rights in your home or shop. I know you can only attack in pure self defence and must stop hitting them once they cease to be a threat but what about locking them in a room & calling BiB immediately? What about cable ties around the wrists and attaching them to a radiator?

Would I be done for that if I called the BiB immediately (i.e, no intention to lock 'em up for days)?

Not a situation I've ever been in but curious to know what's acceptable & what's not.

Cheers - PBF

I once woke up to two gurlars coming up the stairs in my house. I didn't catch them, as I was hardly awake, and by the time I said WTF they had done one.

But saying I had caught one, and detained him, would this scrote have rights?

Geoff Thompson's book Three Second Fighter has a section on the Law at the back, IIRC it states that if you feel threatened you are within your rights to make a pre-emptive strike as long as the rules of reasonable force apply or something can't quite remember, good book well worht buying nice and cheap for what it is.

Apparently the same rules that apply to the police apply to us.

Bit more on how reasonable force is judged here
