"New civilian traffic police are to be put on patrol on motorways specifically to deal with jams.

The uniformed Highways Agency officers will travel up and down looking for potential trouble spots."

Doesn't this just smack of the government finally realising that they shouldn't have removed all of the proper trafpol's.

I'm not sure I want some jumped up civvie who failed the Police entrance tests dealing with this though.

Sounds to me like they want to have speed (tax) cameras, Talivans and civvies doing the job of the Traffic division.

I hope the Police federation (or whetever they are called) fight this move.

Initial reaction; idea from hell.

Would end up being like the privatising of traffic wardens, performance measured purely by the number of motorists persecuted.

Suppose it fits in with the governments policy of driving us all off the roads though!

There again I hope that if they do keep talivans and there is nothing we can do about it, that they ARE all manned with civvis.

That way I can jam them and they will not have the authority to stop me
