car has been damaged in accident, VIN plate was attached to B pillar but rendered unreadable/unrepairable in accident. Bodyshop have ordered new plate but need to fill in forms etc before one is provided. vehicle is otherwise repaired.
can vehicle be driven on road without VIN plate attached?

Yes.There should be other places where the vin number is stamped as well ie floor pan, dashboard, inner wing etc.As long as you have then the police etc will be able to id the car with the registration plate. As a thought why not keep damaged vin tag in glove box with paperwork relating to crash repairs etc.

thanks - not sure whether bodyshop will release the original plate or whether they need to keep to verify new one but i'll ask.Cheers

Just make sure that the vin is stamped somewhere else.If you were to be stopped and the police could not id the car you could get called in to have it examined at a police base to confirm the real id of the car etc.As i said though most cars now have the vin no stamped in at least two or 3 places.

And if you're lucky all 3 will be the same...Edited by TPS on Thursday 11th October 12:50
