2AM Saturday morning J15 M1
There are roadworks and the speed limit is 50mph now. J15 is at the bottom of a long hill northbound and all 3 lanes were open, the weather was good, and traffic light but as I got off there it was the camera van
Dark blue impossible to see.
Doing overtime saving all our lives
Lets face it ....it's just a tax!!

Yes, but if they hadnt been there, you'd have been speeding you ikkle munkey, and then you'd have had a accident.

at 2am in the morning on a uninhabited motorway I would assume myself to be safe and I would be speeding no doubt about it.
If this kind of thing is happening its not going to be long before my licence my job my misses and kids have all gone

It doesn't matter whether you have a RA, V1, SR1, 8500 or a £19.99 special Tandy Tiddly Superkewl Lookitme!-I-detect-lazerz! detector, whatever, the laws of physics make detecting laser beams a difficult proposition. Laser detection CAN work, but because the beam width is so narrow and there is so little scatter, you can't rely upon it. Your alertness and sharp vigilant beady eye are far more critical to your "survival" out there on the plod and talivan ridden highways.

This realy is the lowest of the low and speaks volumes about the conduct and priorities of certain police forces, politicians, civil servants and assorted do-gooders. Moreover it makes plain their disgusting attitude toward the public.

How can this policy possibly be justified??

How do you know it was a camera van?
Have you assumed?
Did you stop and actively investigate what was inside?

In my opinion it was unlikely to have been. They are staffed by civilians (generally) and they don't work night shifts.

every stationary unmarked van at the side of the road with blacked out windows is not necessarily a camera van.

Ah, yes. But just because we're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't actually out to get us.

Yes - but better to be paranoid than caught.. keeping your eyes open is better than keeping your head in the sand.

This was trainspot2000 plan though. To hide all speed measuring devices, and put us all in fear so we could never be quite sure if we were/are being surveilled.
Nice place this is...Russia circa 1975 anyone?

I was just about to post a new thread along similar lines when I saw this one.

I passed through there at about 1.15am Sat morning and it was definitely a scamera van. It had a camera sticker on the side of it and was parked up on a bridge above a 50mph roadwork section. Couldn't believe it .... what a complete waste of time.
Fortunately I was observing the limits (well .. 55ish) but it really was a joke.

Just as well he wasn't any further up the road

Well funny really because it was there again last night at about half past midnight.
I drove right around the roundabout and there he was sitting there having a ciggy dark blue van Northamptonshire speed camera whatever on the side.
I will be passing the site again around 2 tomorrow morning this time I will take my camera and post up a nice pic
Paranoid I am not
And I havn't had a point on my licence since 1987 I just resent this totally unfair way of raising tax. Shouldn't this van be out near school sites when the kids are on their way from and too home?
I could accept that but not this.

You state that it was in a restricted 50 mph section of roadworks.

Were there contractors actually working in the area that was restricted?
Were the lanes reduced in width?

Have you ever had to work in an area where traffic is travelling past you at higher speeds with only a few plastic cones and some barrier tape protecting you?

Think about it from someone elses perspective.
If you drive a PC or desk for your job, would you be happy for people to be allowed to drive at 50mph plus three feet from the back of your chair?

Would you be so confident in their ability to not get it wrong at the point it mattered to you, especially if they have been given less room to do it in?

The same old arguements appear on this forum and they are quite frankly tired and boring

I refer to " I agree with cameras but only outside schools." and such!

They would be ineffective. Most danger to school children from traffic is not in the immediate vicinity of schools, but further away where the conjestion eases and traffic speed rises. Many schools are places that you cannot physically drive fast outside at the critical times because of the volume of traffic collecting children or dropping them off.

I was not aware of this...

See, even on the mundane threads there's always a risk you'll learn something when you come on here...

On this strech on roadworks you'll go past 10 static central reservation camera's even before you get to the Van.

I suspect if you were speeding your licence was long gone.

If you came of at J15, turn towards scameraville, and continue on the A45, after about 3 miles, there is a self storage facility on your right, and at the other end of this building is where the vans are based, hence the apparent proliferation of verminous vans in that area

I have a novel idea.

If you want to protect chilren from traffic, keep them out of the road.
