Just watching Sky news and saw the Queen arrive at the new war memorial. On her new 'state car' a Phantom I think I noticed there was no front plate, and later no rear number plate either...

So... is she allowed a special dispensation, and if so, who else is!?

Does that mean if a car is caught speeding without plates the queen gets the NOP and has to prove she wasnt driving it, and if not she MUST disclose who was?

Just a thought...

Driver of an unregistered car travelling to or from its MoT or SVA test by prior arrangement?

The 'prior arrangement' bit is essential smile . The car must be insured - insurance is based on the vehicle's VIN number and not registration mark in this case.

Apologies, I got that the wrong way around.

It's interesting though, in the context of the question, to wonder why, if her "State" cars are not required to be registered, other "State" cars (e.g. those owned by the government) are so required. I imagine BLiar would have loved at least equal status with HM the Q in that regard smile .

No, she goes to the Lords. Black Rod then summons the Commons (and remember that the door to the Commons is shut in his face to indicate the separation between Crown and Parliament) to the Lords. This is the only time that members of the Commons may enter the Lords. The ruling monarch cannot enter the Commons.

The ruling monarch cannot enter the City of London without the invitation of the Lord Mayor. The helmet plates of the City of London Police do not incorporate the crown ... neither do they have the word "Police".

Ah, the City of London Police. A fine body of men (and women). They were also the last force in the UK to abolish their height restriction. For chaps you had to be 6'0" or taller!

I was allowed to drive mine up the M3 from Southampton docks with no plates, just a piece of paper saying registration formalities had been carried out by the importers and it was being driven to the new registered owner's address and, of course, an insurance cert.
I then had to keep it off-road until the full docs came through and I could have the plates made up.

I had my plates stolen once from a hospital car park, which was after I had been in hospital with my wife who was giving birth. I drove on the road, but did drive straight to the local police station, who gave me a crime number and all that, and he said when you get home make some temp ones, and get some real ones made as soon as.

It was a strange feeling, driving with no plates for albeit a short journey 5miles max, and everybody seemed to realise and look at me.!!! I didn't come across a police car, if I had, I'm sure they would have stopped me though.

What about the armed forces. The trucks, land rovers, cars etc. will almost certainly have plates but what about when the army are on an exercise and tanks travel
along certain stretches of road ? On a good surface they can shift along at a few knots.
