I work by Edinburgh airport and there is a dual carriageway with "National Sped Limit" applies signs all the way down. Drove along yesterday lunchtime and they had plonked a mobile camera van there and put very small 40mph signs on a couple o lamposts all the way down. Drove home in the evening - van gone, 40mph signs taken down. Is this not just blatant rip-off Britain? I'm pretty sure I clamped the anchors on though in time! P.S. I am unable to use the language to represent my emotions about this as I would be banned from PH.

Well I promise you I'm telling the truth. Another couple of guys at work backed me up as I thought I was seeing things.

I'm not suggesting you aren't. I am just questioning the leagllity of changing a speed limit whilst a camera van is parked there.

Didn't think you doubted me sorry. Was just so unbelievably gobsmacked at the sheer audacity of the situation that feel I have to clarify everything.

WTF? do you know if anyone took photos?

IMO you should complain to your local SCP and also go to the papers.

No way that this could be enfored, as in all likleyhood here will be no legislation to cover it.

Every Tom, Dick and Harry can't just go around putting speed limit signs up as they please. If they want the speed limit altered they have to apply via the local council and the Scottish Executive for a temporary speed limit order, and would have to give good reason for requiring it. I doubt that going out with a speed camera van of an afternoon would qualify.

Are you talking about the dual carriageway that runs from Maybury down to Newbridge Roundabout?

If you are, then it's had 40mph areas for ages. It's 40mph from Maybury down to the Royal Bank of Scotland headquarters, then steps up to 50 then 60mph, then back down to 40 at Ratho Station.

Hi, is it the A8 from Newbridge to Gogar you mean, if it is I saw some mobile works taking place there over the last few days. I think there may be a temporary speed limit there when the workies are out. I could be wrong though.

That's what I thought. Surely the 40 signs are still there?

If it was a temporary limit for road works, there's a strong probability that there would be something wrong with the signage, positioning, length of road covered, etc. - contrary to the notice. Of course, by the time the NOIPs drop onto the doormat, the works are finished, the signs taken down, and there's no way to show any error - Streaky

I know this road. It's dual carriageway with NSL signs at parts. Isn't that 70mph rather than 60mph?

No part of that road is 50 - it's 40 then NSL (70 in a car) and then 40 again.
