Since a well documented run in with plod I've covered the plate on my bike with mud.

Tonight I have a ROSPA observed run.

I want to put it to the vote.

Should I uncover the plate?

In one word YES

Highway code page 89 Annex section 6 Vehicle Maintenance

Lights, indicators, reflectors, and number plates MUST be kept clean and clear

Law:many regulations within CUR cover the above equipment and RVLR regs 23 & 27

Also if you were my IAM associate I'd refuse to go out on the run unless you cleaned it.

Yes. Definitely.

In fact: clean the whole bike. Its not that the Observer is judging the bike - he's judging you - its just that a favourable impression can't hurt his/her opinion of you.

Someone who cares about their car/bike probably cares about their driving/riding.

You can always spray it with mud after!

I uncovered it!

The rest of the bike it perfectly clean!

The run didn't go great. He said I was 80 per cent there and lots of good stuff and then put crosses in loads of boxes!

Nice bloke though and I've never yet gone on a run and not had useful thoughts of some kind provoked.
