Getting away with it
Discussion
What's anyone's best excuses/stories/tactics they've used to get out of a speeding ticket when stopped?
Anyone keep notes folded in their (old style paper) driving licences? Sob stories? Fake emergencies? Free Masonry?
Policemen who post here, what's the best attempt you've heard? And the worst?
What works and what's likely to cost you a night in prison?

I got stopped doing 125 or so many many years ago.
The reason I was driving so fast was that I had just necked a can of drink and was busting for the loo.. I actually got out of the car and was standing there, in the bladder pain situation, (I may have been doing the thing when you're five years old, squeezing the legs together etc....but damn was I in pain.)I suspect the officer believed me, and just said "I didn't mind the 120 on the straight, it was taking the roundabout at 80 I had a problem with"... I said I was very very sorry but I was desperate for the loo.. He said, "don't do that again if you value your license", and sent me on my way...

17, pissed, tried to get away and got stopped down a dead-end street in North Watford. I was shaking so much I could hardly stand without holding the door handle. The policeman said "drive home VERY carefully and never do this again"!
It seems unbelievable, and I probably did do it again a few times, but I wouldn't do it now. But I think drink-driving was far more accepted back then, I remember most people driving to and from the pub, especially people's Dads, 'cos they knew what they were doing. It's all about experience etc.
To balance it out, I got nicked, made a court appearance and got points & fined 10 years later for something I didn't do. The policeman openly lied in court.
So I guess me & the law are roughly evens...

Just last week, in fact.
Coming on to the motorway, I was passed at high speed. I picked up speed to watch.
Young lad in a hire car at 105mph, pressing on in the outside lane, aggressively tailgating to pass. After catching up, I watched from 100 metres back in lane three for a while.
When stopped I asked him what was the reason for the hurry and the aggression. He jumped around in his seat apologising saying that he was so desparate for the loo that he had to hurry, and his attention had also been compromised by watching for the next services.
When I asked him what he didn't like about the services we had passed in convoy some 5 miles back, his excruciating need to relieve himself suddenly dissipated.

Plenty more, but I liked that one.

Slightly off the point - When I was 12/13 at school our headmaster told us about when he was young he once had drunk so much after a party he drove home and pulled up on the road to throw up when a copper came up to him and he was told words to the effect of "now get back in the car son and get on your way"
Can't see that happening nowadays somehow
(rightfully I must add)

I should have been seriously 'done' for my first ever accident, but i was absolved of all blame.
17 yrs old, just out of the pub with three mates on board. Obviously i was a hugely talented driver and had to prove this to my freinds
. I got a little air of our favourite hump back bridge only to discover someoene pulling out of a petrol station ahead. I was doing twice the limit and had no grip as the car was 'unsettled'.
I had to make a quick decision:
1:Take to the wrong side of the road and hope they turned left so i could overtake them.
2:stay on my side of the road and hope the pulled out in front of me and turned towards me.
Within a millisecond it became obvious they were going to slow to make it out in front of me so i swapped lanes. I had applied my brakes for a second but just skidded without slowing down. I got off the brakes as i was aware of them measuring skid marks to show who was at fault:P
The end result was that the car turned right and i hit them in pretty much a head on accident at a combined speed of about 60. I got breathalysed but somehow got away with the with the 2-3 pints i had just drank. The accident was not my fault as they were pulling out onto a main road and my speed could not be proven.
Thank god the only injury was slight damage to my hand from the steering wheel and dashboard, no one else was hurt. Both cars written off on the spot. I was a very lucky boy.

Great!

Apart from having blasted past a perfectly good toilet then, this seems like the best chance of getting out of it? Anyone else used this?

I've known more than one person get away with tests and had between 3-5 drinks, it seems as long as you dont feel pissed you can get away with it...not that i would advocate trying it. AJS- said:

"You're not going to arrest me are you, Reg?"
These were the words of my inspector, who had just provided a positive roadside breath test.
And yes, I did - as if you needed to ask.
Has it proved the right decision? Have you been put forward for more promotions or less? Did the inspector get fired? These were the words of my inspector, who had just provided a positive roadside breath test.
And yes, I did - as if you needed to ask.

I bet every copper dreads that scenario. These were the words of my inspector, who had just provided a positive roadside breath test.
