I feel I have the duty when out on the road to slow other drivers down. On a and b roads I deliberately close down gaps in front of me to prevent drivers behind speeding past me in excess of the limit. On motorways I deliberately pull out into the fast lane (with more than enough time for the faster driver to slow down of course) in order to prevent a speeder going about his business in excess of the limit. I flash my lights at speeding oncoming traffic to make them think there's a camera ahead of them. I have been known to squeeze every last inch out of gaps between me and other traffic alongside me so that speeding bikers can't get through. I drive with a notepad and pen and when cars do finally manage to overtake me I make a show of writing down their number plate in full view of the driver, as if to say I'm straight off to the police station with the information. I also believe that the Government needs to addres the fundamental issue of the legality of being able to produce a car that is capable of exceeding the speed limit.

I am in my 60s and I drive an old Saab and I live perilously close to one of these hooligans, who I know regularly attends rallies of TVR cars. He posts on a website called PistonHeads and he masqerades under the name AngusFaldo. He should be put in prison.

Aaaaaghghghghgr!

Feel free to block the outside lane...ill just go up the inside..ttttttttt naughty boy..
As for squeezing the last inch out of a gap to prevent bikers.....not bright. I just let em go...whats the point in trying to hold em up?

Well if he's going to take the law into his own hands so will I. If I see him driving dangerously I'll dish out what I think to be an approprate fixed penalty.

I think he should concentrate on his own driving.

You forgot a bit, Angus..."whenever an oncoming motorist overtakes someone, I flash my lights and gesticulate wildly at him, even if he completed his manoeuvre and tucked back into his own lane about half a mile before we passed each other".

I have a duty to drive so fast it frightens numpties off the roads. I can single handedly solve the congestion crisis in the UK, I need sponsorship for tyres, brake pads an petrol if anyone has some slack in their budget.

They sounds like the drivers I have to drive behind only I sometimes come accros drivers with up grades to the above attitude.

The ones I'm talking about are the really timid ones that brake on every corner even though you could go round 30mph above the speed limit easily in teh peice of crap their driving. They drive 15mph under evry speed limit.
they brake when seeing an approaching car (just a touch) as if it startles them.
then when you over take them they see you next to them and sort of drift towards you target fixation? (up until then they didnt know you were there because they havnt looked in their mirror once!./
followed by shaking fists and flashing lights when you get past

There is more than one type of muppet out there be careful

I hate those numpties. They don't recognise the NSL sign and drive at 40-45 mph everywhere. I sometimes rush up behind them and pass within a couple of feet of the side mirror. That usually wakes them up! I'm sure they sometimes do a wobble as well. They are the cause of more misery and frustration on our roads and usually haven't got all their faculties. It's going to get a lot worse because there are more older people still driving. When I feel the need to slow everybody else up I shall stop driving. I reckon the government have calculated that numpties can drop the speed by 20 mph on most NSL roads.

I know a few of those. They come on IAM courses and get told their driving is crap and really, *really* have a problem taking the criticism - all they really wanted was a rubber stamp telling them they could continue in their self-righteous and anti-social behaviour.

As for letting a faster car by...well you would on a track day wouldn't you? So why not on the road? I have NEVER been held up by a biker - so I let them by a.s.a.p. To be honest, though, I've prevented the odd car from passing - because I knew they'd hold me up shortly...

If you want a humbling experience go to the Isle Of Mull and see the local drivers. ALWAYS let them past at a passing place - I guarantee not one local "granny" will hold you up....

They are also almost undoutably the same people that would jump on the opportunity to operate a shafting wker partnership scamera van and complain about the dangerous drivers that mow over hundreds of children who have every right to be playing in the motorway.

There is a word for these people, and that word is !

But have you noticed that when they enter a 30 zone quite a lot of them still do 40-45...?

Oh yes - totally safe then...

I have noticed. I reckon they just don't have a clue what the speed limits are so 'play safe' and settle for around 40mph all the bloody time. Grrrrr

Anyway, surely this thread is a windup. It has to be right?
