First of all, many thanks to all those who replied on my last topic with regard to my youngest son.

It just got worse. The eldest lad just received a NIP, for the alleged offence of : excess speed. ( 50 MPH. Speed limit 30MPH ) Stupid boy.

Anyway, just wondered what code would be used for that offence, as there is no mention on the letter.
BTW, the road he was caught on is a section of road around the bottom of Oliver Mount in Scarborough and is a non residential road ( still within the town boundaries though )

Had a lengthy chat with him, just wondered if anyone knows the likely outcome. I'm thinking 3 points, £60.00........ anybody know of any other scenario's.

Thanks again, Del. Soon be on first name terms with Bib in my townlaugh

PS, I even know the Officer who caught him on Video...............one of the infamous officers who successfully overturned a speeding fine in Middlesbrough area, with a thread elsewhere on this site.

Ouch.. An alleged 50mph in a 30mph is 1mph over the threshold where the matter could ordinarily be dealt with by Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty (3 points, £60).

I'm not saying he won't receive a CoFP, but he should be prepared for the matter to go straight to summons. If convicted in court, the Magistrates guidelines suggest 4-5 points..frown

A road at the bottom of Oliver's Mount that's 30mph and not a residential road, would that be the one leading out of Eastfield?

Sounds more like Queen Margaret's Road to me. If it is and your lad is up in front of Scarborough Mag's he might have a problem, a young lass from York was killed at the bottom (where it joins Mere Lane) a couple of weeks ago, from the looks of things they must have been pushing on (they had flown a fair way before hitting a tree). As such I suspect the magistrates will come down on him hard.

At 50 he is very unlikely to get a fixed penalty offer, more likely a summons and a court appearance.

Spot on. I fear the worst for him. Still, he shouldn't have been speeding.Bit frustrating that the TC who clocked him managed to get his own ticket overturned due to a technicality, and now drives around the Scarborough area in a completely unmarked Peugeot van catching unsuspecting drivers for speeding.

Fortunately, his letter to my son, states the offence of "Excess speed " and not dangerous driving.

I know that road very well, and for the young lass to have been killed there earlier this year, the driver must have been driving seriously fast.

Anyway, thanx for the replies, and I will keep you all posted on progress.

Del.

My mum got caught in her lotus doing 70 in a 30 by a gatso

She just got a fixed penalty in the post - so there is hope. 3 points and a £40 at the time...

Part of Queen Margaret's Road is residential at the Filey Road end, so could the OP be referring to the minor road from Mountside hairpin to the Mere hairpin, i.e. the road which forms part of the circuit used for motorcycle races?

This has nothing to do with Eastfield though, so I might be on the wrong track there.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Hi Dave, it was at the seamer road end of Queen Margerets rd. TC was parked on Mere lane, because that is the only place to park with a clear view of Queen margerets, and be relatively hidden from view of vehicles driving down towards Seamer road......most drivers would be concentrating on setting car up for the corner at the bottom of the hill, and not looking at plain white vans!!!

He was caught speeding by stealth cops. Oh well.
