I was driving along the A34 (dual carriageway thing that goes past Newbury) on Sunday night and came up behind an old Astra estate car. As I got closer and thought about overtaking I noticed he was kind of all over the place. Drifting kind of erratically from side to side enough to sometimes be a up to a foot into the other lane. First thing I thought was, 'if I overtake, he'll drift into the side of me!!', so I hung back to see what he did. Didn't seem to be any improvement and the guy also did a few dramatic course changes - as in he drifted too far one way and suddenly jerked back into line. I reckon the guy was either wasted or the car had very wobbly wheels. Anyway I was pretty concerned that something bad would happen as this guy was obviously a bit of a hazard on the road. Thought about what to do - should I call the police, as in phone 999 or what? Do I pull off the road and call and probably forget the reg number or be as much of a hazard by getting on the phone at the wheel? Maybe follow behind and let the cops know exactly where he was... Luckily for me the guy lurched off at the next junction & I never got to do anything about it (hopefully he didn't stack up & kill loads of people). But I wondered what the recommended course of action should be when you encounter people like this, or what others have done.
Cheers
