quick question:
driving cars / no tax

what is the scenario here

1> I buy a car but no tax (from a local small dealer)
2> they help me drive the car home after I buy it, APNR catches it, who gets fined ?

3> If car is insured my name and I drive home and get APNR would I get points.

4> what happens if I'm in an accident, or the dealer mashes the car up ?

umm...what about tootling along to the Post office and buying a tax disc..after all if you have it insured and you have bought it you will be in possession of all the documentation to enable you to tax it...won't you?

thanks all

what I mean, is I've been looking at a few cars all from small indi traders working form home.

A few I've asked where ok for me to drive to there place and buy the car and they would drive one car , I would drive my old car, on the understanding I would drive them back home.

However the cars I looked at "then" did have TAX and MOT

The ones I'm looking at on Sat may not have Tax.

The cars I've been looking at have all been 1 hours drive.

so just wondering

also on sat's PO's are closed half day, and sun they are closed

I only get weekends off at moment

I know it might be novel but get the trader to tax it for you and wait a couple of days to pick the car up....?

If there is no tax on the car at the dealers he will supply trade plates for the test drive, and or drive to your home, after that if you have purchased the car it is your responsibility, if you were driving it.

Sounds like you're thinking of buying from one man bands, to me that conjures up images of the bolkes round here who line cars up on the grass verges with For Sale signs on, and probably arent the type of business to be officially registered and have access to trade plates

I might have misunderstood that, but if they are I'd be more tempted to see if you can find another car at a more established garage.

If you're buying something a bit special thats only available from a collector who's selling, then they ought to tax it, or you ought to arrange a flatbed to take it home on

There's a few companies on ebay that offer decent recovery services for runners/non runners, around £200 for 150 miles.

Also make sure you have somewhere off road to store it when you get it home (til Thursday as Hooli says)
