Doing about 80MPH down the M5 the other day around Jct25/26 (Im a criminal and should be killed for it but heyho) when I see a white van with a device on a bridge up ahead.

Adjust speed but as I go past notice that the van clearly says "DVLA" and they are doing numberplate checks etc.

Are they starting to realise that bombarding us with speed cameras will just piss us off? Are they actually using a device to detect possible criminals?

We can only hope

Sounds like the mobile road tax cameras. We've had some of these in Bristol for a while now. Didn't pick up the untaxed ford probe driven by the barsteward that front ended my merc last friday night then proceeding to do a runner leaving his passneger sparked out on the road with me calling for an ambulance.

Oh I quite agree, its still a sh!te state of affairs but its a step in the right direction.

Cameras solve very little problems.

Maybe numpty who drives with tax / insurance will get caught out and put away for their 3rd offence or somthing (yeah righto! here's hoping!) and prevent an accident like that happening again.

Interesting - I was on M6 around Stafford 25th, about 12:15pm and passed under a bridge with a white van on it. My K band alarm on my Bell went off and there was a guy with something resembling a camera (though at 80 I didn't want to spend a lot of time gawping). I wondered if it was Bill though didn't have any "day-glow" markings. Unlike the battenberg Galaxy a few miles earlier that was parked on the bridge but over the hard shoulder - from a distance was hidden by the overhead gantry sign, which meant you couldn't see him until you passed almost underneath.(crafty eh?).

They'll only catch (for road tax evasion) correctly registered cars / owners of course.

Doubt it matey, as ANPR only holds information on known offenders.
