Radar detectors, the law behind them?

Now, something terrible is about to happen.

In Finland there haven't been many cameras before, because of the law. The driver of the car must recognized, so the cameras take the picture from the front (bikes get away). Now they're about to change the law so that the ticket will be sent to the owner of the car. He/she can complain if wants, but isn't this a bit like your system there? UK.

But you get to have radar detectors, we don't. When was it that the detectors became legal? Was it because of Gatsos? I remember reading something like that years ago from Performance Car.

Sorry Pekka am from NZ cant help there, cops here cant take them off you, but give you serious shit about them when caught apparently.
Hey do you have the late model Mazda6 sports wagon? I am contemplating replacing the subaru with one, but want to know if they are reliable and handle well. I have to get a daily wagon driver of some sort for windsurfing/artworks etc.

Yep, I like the Mazda6. I think it's the best looking car in that sector, nice that Mazda& decided not to go that MPV route that Nissan and Citroen went. Can't say much about reliability, ca. 7000km driven, but Mazdas are quite reliable.

Handling is great, fot this sort of car. Similar to Hyundai Coupe V6 and that DSC works well. Doesn't interfere too early and the suspension is comfortable but it corners well and if you go over the limit, it still stays together, just nicely sliding and will recover nicely and quickly.

The legality of radar detectors in the UK was something of a grey area up until a ruling by the Queen’s Bench in January 1998 which made them perfectly legal to use. Up to then, users were said to be contravening a section of the 1949 Wireless Telegraphy Act. Although the radar detector still has a use, the need for one has been reduced since the advent of laser speed detection devices.

I was pulled for speeding by a following traffic officer in 1986. My ancient X band detector, about as big a house brick, and useless for the K band gatso, was sat on the dashboard large as life - the officer never uttered a word about it

I understand that if French police pull you and see radar/laser detectors etc they give you two options.
1.Confiscation and a fine.
2.The device is placed under wheel of your car and you are invited to drive over it

Aha, I hoped that there would have been somekinfd of EU-legislation about speedcameras and detectors :frown:

Has Finland signed up to the European Convention on Human Rights ? There may be scope to challenge any ban under this legislation.
