I heard a rumour (from government)via the Police Federation that within the next 5 years they will scale down our Traffic Police dramatically and introduce "Road Wardens".

These will be for want of a better phrase, Council Wardens. (Private Contractors).

I personally cant believe that with all this death and mayhem on the roads that plans are afoot to pass this specialised field of Roads Policing onto people who have not got years of experience and who will undoubtadly just be giving out tickets willy nilly for offences like seat belts and mobile phones etc etc in order to satisfy quotas, (and collect revenue).

This apparently has been designed for 2 reasons-

1) It will get more Police on the streets to tackle "real" crime.

2) It will save the government "Millions " of ££££ s.

What does everyone on here think about it, but if you think its bad now....just wait!

Sadly...as we all know, there will be no discretion.

Still, on the bright side, with all the extra revenue generated the Chancellor might put down our taxes to compromise!

I thought these new 'wardens' didn't have any power under law, they just tidied up after accidents and diverted traffic?

I think ive reached the limits of tolerance to tell you the truth.
Ive got 2 options: 1) blow up and fight them every which way, 2) leave.

1) is a long, difficult road (no pun), will take forever to get any results due to the overwhelming number of idiots pushing their nonsense.
Unless people get organised to fight these bastards, its not worth doing it on my own...(never run away from anything so far).

2) hmmmm...shall i do the best thing and leave the sinking/sunk??? ship for sunnier shores?
Thats a hard choice innit?

Normally when you hear these rumours there is a little grain of truth in there somewhere.

Not wishing to be rude here but you wouldnt get rid of the organ-grinder and teach the monkey to play would you?

Or perhaps they would if it would save a few nuts....lol

Tonyrec,

As I've said elsewhere I have no issues with the Police and *THEIR* attitude to speeding in general - hell, I have had more than my fair share of brushes with the law over that, some of which have resulted in points/fines, some of which haven't.

The blanket application of a speeding policy though with no feedback / right of reply really p's me off and if it does go the way you are suggesting then it's likely I'll be buggering off to see rellies in South Africa because this will be a superb revenue stream.

At least the Police speed traps (as opposed to Talivans etc.) are usually implemented so that of you don't see them and get caught then you really deserve to get caught because your observation is pants but get the privateers in and it'll be open season on motorists!

We allready have ticketfiends on scooters, here at the home of stealth tax, so tiny minded morons with a modicum of power, will come as no suprise to us, interestingly over the first year of its inception, our so called TOPPS team, have suffered so much verbal and physical abuse at our hands, that many of them have simply handed in their badges and quit, there was an entertaining article in the 'Chronicle & Echo'
only recently, in which a number of them came forward, to voice their feelings, i say bring em on'

Bastard road... Spent over 4 hours in traffic on there this weekend.

Say, If I put a PH sticker in the window next time I'm up that way could you speed trap me and let me know if my speedo really is dodgy?

If any of these so-called wardens are of the same low-life, mentally retarded, fascist genre as the scumbag employed by a London council who reached "fame" in Clampers the TV prog, then I would say they should be careful what they do. I know I'd have no problems applying baseball bat/head (verbally of course) to such scum........
The BiB do a great job (most of them most of the time) and to have a politically motivated brownshirt brigade (probably without any legal comeback if they bend the rules) is not only undemocratic it's downright shameful and time that the average Brit manned the walls.......

If it means I can tell these Wardens to fcuk off after they stop me and tell me they think i was doing 180mph down the high street, then great.

After all its only the police that are trained to determine the speed of a vehicle by sight alone

I could see this coming with the proliferation of cameras, slowly but surely automating traffic control.

The government wins on 2 fronts: (i) less police to pay, (ii) more revenue.

I can see the whole traffic management thing being privatised eventually if (new!?) labour get in again.

To think what it might be like, just think of privatised clampers!

Currently 90 per cent of rolling tabaco is illegally imported because of stupid tax laws.

How long before 90 per cent of drivers are unregistered and untaxed.

It *already* makes economic sense.

We live in a f**ked up country.

Maybe it's our own fault for refusing to accept progressive taxes.

This is a good point.

The overexcessive use of rules and regs and controls is what is pushing people to adopt methods beyond those controls.
