Cameras on M69??
Discussion
Following on from the "M20/M1 Specs?" thread, I have now been back along the M69 and double checked the camersa I saw. I can confirm that there are only one set of cameras ( one above each lane on the motorway ) so they can't be specs right?? There is the camera unit with a white box at the side of each one, does anybody know what they are yet??
I took a picture, it's not too clear but if anybody wants to try and identify these camera's e-mail me and I'll send you the picture.
Incidentally , Road Angel came up with a 'blackspot' warning just as I approached the cameras. Not sure if this is significant.

There IS a SPECS system on the M20, as I drove past it on Sunday - in the roadworks by the Channel Tunnel junction. Still not sure what the cameras on the M1 are though - doesn't look like the normal SPECS camera, no roadworks, no signs, nothing. Not Traffic Master, as there's loads of those round here, but they're blue and on very distinctive poles.
Did read on the Highways Agency site that they have a long term traffic control study thing going on for the M1 from Staples corner to the M6, so maybe these are some sort of flow monitors or something? The M69 isn't that far from the M1/M6 junction either, so maybe it's all tied in.
I COULD test them by going past as fast as possible, but unsurprisingly I'm a tad reluctant....

Well, after passing them at speed for the last 6 months I hope their not!!
[well not too fast!!]
Send me the pictures and I will see if I recognise them as the ones I pass under.
Looked through various sites [incl ABD] but nothing apparent on there.
Think I might take it easy for a while. Well at least until someone cofirms what they are.

I drove past the M69 cameras today, and noted that these are the same type as the ones on the M40 just past J15.
I am fairly positive these are Trafficmaster, as I drive past the M40 ones every day, and never had a ticket.
I did observe one thing interesting, and that is my Road Angel warns me that these two locations on M40 and M69 are accident blackspots. This could mean that they are another trial camera system of unknown type.

These I believe are the new number plate recocognition system, allowing the police to track cars round the country. They are springing up all over the place. I noticed yesterdy they no have them on all the entry and exit slip roads on the M42 betwen M6 and M40..
5th Gear did a fetaure on em a few weeks ago..

Traffic masters are not all blue.
Specs are usually on yellow poles, with a mile gap between them.
There are however, traffic masters on motorway with a camera and a while box next to each of them for each lane.
The white boxes aren't cameras though - they're the communication beacons...

The cameras on the M42 slip roads are for the SPECS Trial which starts very soon. Not all the cameras are installed and wired up yet.
They are not ANPR.

Slightly OT, but if you had those trackday plates that grey out at the flick of a switch, you could mess specs up right?
......and mess up that clean criminal record
! I suppose it would work but I always thought that that kind of thing, if caught (although the chances are slim I suppose) the penalties would be huge.

ledfoot,
Are we saying that there will be SPECS cameras leading onto the sliproads and off the sliproads to catch your average speed over the whole stretch of motorway you were using ?
Yes....
The cameras are on nearly all the slip roads now,and they will monitor the average speeds of all traffic after entering and leaving the M42.

Not going to argue with you because I don't know definately any different. However the cameras are not like the existing SPECs installations. 5th Gear did a feature on this and said they were for the purpose previously mentioned. I have seem exactly the same "cameras" on the M40 and A34, but only 1 set. I guess if they can track vehicles it is only a simple process to do a time and distance calculation.
Ledfoot what is you source of info and do you have any details when it goes live?
