From the ABD....

"JUST WHERE ARE THOSE CAMERAS?
Hertfordshire participates in the speed camera hypothecation scheme and is using both fixed and mobile cameras. For details of location of cameras go to Hertfordshire Council. Note that this list excludes cameras on trunk roads and motorways in Hertfordshire. All the cameras are supposed to be painted yellow and located only at places with a history of serious accidents, and to be clearly visible - not hidden behind trees or road signs.

There are some SPECS cameras on the M1. There is a total of eight SPECS cameras, one over each southbound lane on two M1 gantries just south of Bedmond Lane (Jct 7 to 6a) as a trial. These recognise number plates, timed between two fixed points for speed enforcement. The Highways Agency claims these cameras are a trial site for data sampling only. There is no enforcement taking place here. The Highways Agency even took the decision that, if successful, a different permanent site would be established, so that there is no confusion with this trial site."

I wonder what they'd deem "successful"?

Might have to take Herts County Council to task about the hidden (behind a sign)GATSO by Jarman Park in Hemel Hempstead too.

What they mean by successful is that if more than 1% of drivers is doing more than 77mph they can justfy SPECS on all motorways.

If its anything like the ANPR system trial, which I think I got pinged for a few years ago, they will send a letter to all drivers clock asking for a response. My letter went along the lines of 'We were conducting trials on equipment on the M11 on xx date, were you driving vehicle xxx at xxxx hrs on xxx date? If so can you please repond in the prepaid envelope as this will help the results of the trial'.
Of course it went in the bin as every no show/reply will affect the statisical data for the system accuracy, well that was my thinking at the time anyway.
So my advice would be anyone sent anything to do with this system during the trial period is to put it in the bin . You'll be doing all the other motorist out there a favour.
