Talivans on the M4?
Discussion
Heading back from the Sprint at Castle Combe today I think I saw a couple of these evil contraptions. As I don't do much motorway driving though, I'm not sure.
What I saw was a transit sized van with the day-glow cross hatching on the back parked on a motorway bridge with two SLR sized boxes on tripods looking down as lanes one and two? Was this a scamera unit?
This was heading west a few miles from the M4/M5 split. A bit further up the road there was another van covering the opposite carrige-way.
I was doing an indicated 85 when I saw it, so probably around 80MPH. Am I likely to get a letter? 79MPH would be the limit + 10% + 2mph. Are they likely to automatically prosecute anyone over this?
P.S. Saw an absolutely fantastic Tuscan parked up in the Combe paddock. It had the pearlescent paint and a Pistonheads.com sticker on the back (also an interesting collection of fuses lying between the seats

).They sound like ANPR vans (Automatic Number Plate Readers). Looking for the movements of known criminals or Road Tax Dodgers, etc.
Found this site before, don't know who it belongs to, but sounds like what you are describing....

Thanks WW, that's exactly what they were. Probably not scameras then? That has set my mind at ease a bit.
