Traffic PC reported for speeding
Discussion
Just thought that i would let you know that a lad that i work with was given an FPNE for doing 38 in a 30mph limit in Essex Police area.
He was obviously embarassed by this and told the PC that he was "in the job" but was told quite plainly that in that case that he wouldnt have to explain the procedure regarding the ticket as he should be aware of the guidelines etc etc .
We are all treated the same which is quite right!!
What is everyones else's views about this.
But please be nice about it ok!

Exactly................!
But in his defence it was on a stretch of road with no schools etc etc.......but he was still given 3 points.
On the other side of the coin now.........how do you think that he will feel when he stops a member of the public donig a 38 in a 30mph limit..??????

On the one hand I feel good that he was treated no differently than anyone else would be. On the other hand he was probably driving in a perfectly safe manner, so I feel sad that yet another motorist has been persecuted for a technical violation of a law.
If he was stopped would be interesting to know if he was chased, in which case the chasing car was almost certainly doing a bigger speed himself, or whether he was flagged down after a laser trap.
Overall a sad day.

Personally, i have standards and would have used my discretionary powers on whoever it was.
So you admit you'd have been in a position knowing that you'd have caught people speeding coming around a sweeping right hander and that you'd have let off a fellow BIB ??
Standards, what freaking standards ??

No...you have not understood what im saying, (takes deep breath and a moment to chill)......to me, 38 in a 30 is dealt with by a Verbal Warning WHOEVER IT IS/WAS.
Those are my standards, know what i mean!
OK, i understand that bit, what i dont understand is why you'd have been on the exit of a sweeping righthander if it wasnt to catch speeders in the 1st place. I'm not BIB, but if your in that position in the 1st place why not just nick everyone ??
and without getting into an argument, at what speed would you NIP everbody and not caution them ??
38 in a 30 is speeding, in my eyes, i'd accept a NIP at that speed, 38 is way closer to 40 than 30 ?!?!?!?!

I think what tony's saying is that although you won't get any "points" you will find yourself having your journey time extended by 10-15 minutes. During this time, hopefully, your overall perception of driving will undergo a rapid re-evaluation.
More power to that man I say.
As for the 38 bit I don't think you'd get away with it in other locations. MoJo.
I don't know the circumstances, so can't say whether it's bad luck or bad judgement or both. If 38mph was blatently safe in the situation he was in then it's tough luck and I feel gutted for him. If he was doing 38mph and the situation meant that speed was perhaps unsafe (bad weather, pedestrians randomly walking into the street, blind bends etc, then he deservs £60 and 3 points like anyone else.
Just because he's a cop doesn't mean he should be punished or treated worse than anyone else, he's still just a regular bloke.

Of course they would be there to catch speeders...what else can you do with a pro laser???????
The difference is in how you deal with the speeders that you catch and this all depends on numerous things
like the circumstances, time , weather etc etc.
All Trafpols that i know, take all of these things into account.
When i stop someone from speeding i use my judgement and common sense which has been built up over the last 20years and deal with everyone differently.
Some will benefit from a Verbal Warning for a relatively low speed and some would not.
When you think about it, a fisherman does not eat all the fish that he catches....sometimes he throws some back into the water for a variety of reasons.
In answer to your last question/statement......31 in a 30 is speeding in my eyes.
I reckon he'll rightly feel somewhat aggreived at being "done". Hell, i know i would!
Just cos he was speeding, dosent make him dangerous, and thats where the BIB's discretion comes in. You just dont get the opportunity to be dealt with in this fashion by some fixed or mobile sh*tbox.
Glad to see youre a nicely balanced copper Tonyrec.
Have another beer geezer!
