Points and Bans
Discussion
You'll only get away with 12 points in exceptional circumstances, such as loss of job if you're baned (nb, they record that excuse and it can only be used once)
A disqualification is BAD news, and stays with you for a long time. Insurance can be a nightmare.
Edited to add; 12 months typically, but it depends on the offence(s).
I'm not sure about the points, I think they are removed when your ban elapses.

Can anyone help. Does reaching 12 points (All fixed penalties) mean an automatic ban? If so how long? and once your ban has been served how does this affect the points for the future?
You cannot reach 12 points all on fixed penalties. Once you reach 9 or more, the next offence will come to court if points would take you to 12. Tooting up ban depends on record of last 3 years. 1st DQ = 6 months, then 12, then 24.
Points are removed after tottinig up DQ but not if instant DQ for a specific offence.
It is possible to argue special circumstances for points not being imposed in any given offence (rare as rocking horse shit), or exceptional hardship where 12 is reached and you want to avoid a ban (most now try this). This must be more than you losing your job though, other people must lose theirs or your job be so special that no-one else can do it (single practice GP etc.).
Be aware that success comes at a price, a very hefty fine, e.g. treble the usual.
