Just a quick question...
61 in a 50 = 3 points and £60. My first offence (in 10 yrs driving), is this worth contesting or should I just pay and take the points and pays my money?

Ps cause I make a point of never breaking the speed limit in urban areas, etc. I'm a little upset that this has happened on an empty (but unfamiliar) dual carridgway.

Long and the short of it is that you were speeding. You can either contest that you WERE NOT speeding in which case you need to be prepared to fight the power so to speak.
They dont care whether you were driving safely or had done so for x amount of years, they just care about extracting some money and doshing out 3 points to make the figures look good.

Its a bit like if you plead guilty to an offence you get less of a sentance/fine etc than if you get found guilty after pleading innocent.
And also as a generally law abiding citizen your more likely to pay the fine or have the means to pay the fine than a criminal. (Sorry aren't us motorists the worst criminals of the all??

Actually, one would hope this type of mindless 'criminalisation' by the authorities is what's prompting GMP's Chief Wizard to tell his army of motorized Nazgul to lay off Johnny Alreadyhardpressedenoughwithoutallthisbollockstoo:
the indiscriminate nature of the atrocious automated nabbing contraptions is peeing off large chunks of the populace for generally no good reason (urban areas excepted, I quite agree).
Pay the damn thing and keep you powder dry. I'm quite sure some slimey snake in the grass will offer us all a marginally better deal in the not too distant future.
Btw, is it an offence to raise the sign of ye olde English archer at Talivans and the like?

Ummm, I recall reading the the points stay the same, just the fine goes up + costs.
There shouldn't be a difference in penalty if you try to defend yourself or we have "two tier" justice. And that isn't strictly ethical.
Can't you just not sign the form, or say you don't know who was driving?
