In a 70 limit (A449 between coldra and kemys wales). got a clean licence so its not the end of world, just a bit pi55ed cos I was being responsible an not doin 150, it's like a M.way ffs...
I didn't see the camera so it's probably a sneeky one, any advice wellcome.
I know I was breaking the law but this seems harsh to me, are the welsh cracking down on speeding?

I hear you.

What a load of outrageous bollocks. My sympathies, naturally.

I assume a scamera got you? If so, probably the defintive argument against the damn things.

Yet another decent taxpayer alienated.

How spiffing.

Use any technicality you can, I guess - such unimportant transgressions should be ignored, end of story.

Sanctimonious git alert (me I mean)!!!

We all know the limit is 70 - when we speed we are all paying the numbers game (I include myself in this -'cos I''m no angel).

Unfortunately you lost this time - just take your medicine !.

Sanctimonious git mode off.

Tough luck.

I just think that it's a bit strange that everyone gets all up-tight about this - we all know that we are breaking the speed limit (ignoring the rights and wrongs of the level set), so it's all a gamble really, unfortunately this time you lost.

Cheers,

Mike.

DO NOT SIGN.

Stuff 'em. Police are breaking the law all the time, yet that's ok. SO why not you? do you feel morally right or wrong? let that guide you. If you feel that a nicking for 40mph past a school is bad, then take the rap. If you feel 88 on a m-way is ok, then fight back.

If you want to do the right thing, do as Hertsbiker suggests - fight them all the way.

If you want an easy time with no stress or worry then take it like a man.

Fight it - why feel bad, it's only that you were travelling at a speed deemed by a penpusher to be inappropriate. If you'd been caught mugging someone, vandalising etc etc, then fine, that's criminal.

The fine doesn't bother me but the points i could do without, thank god I wasnt in the cerby cos i would have been goin alot fster. I honestly did not see a camera though, which suggests dare i say it that its purpose is to generate revenue. I dont need a headache over this but if i can do my bit to piss on their fireworks i will. Thanks for your thoughts.

The ****s did me there.

Look back for my posts. I got 9 points in 8 minutes.

Fortunately the rozzers backed down when I suggested court and gave me one set of 3 at 87mph.

I went back there to have another look. THe longst straight in a valley. Perfect vis. [1]

Wonder what stops them hanging around outside a school? Not enough revenue?

[1] Perfect vis to the point where the camera vans had to be disguised and given illegal orange lights.

Toad, would that be front or rear attack (oo-err!) by laser or radar ?

Will never know I wasn't offered photo's. Saw two of the three vans. (Clearly visible from miles away but disguised.)

It felt like a rear attack with a sandy c**k if that's what you mean.

This scum make no pretence at safety - it's just revenue.

Nope they've always been like that! S.Wales' and especially Gwents finest use every trick in the book... in fact they probably wrote it! It's a nightmare driving in South Wales.

I travel the M4 regularly. When coming West has anybody noticed the dramatic drop in everybodys speed as soon as they pass over the Severn Bridge?... and the reverse when going East? Or is it just me?

Got what I think is a NIP and another form saying what the offence is and asking me to fill out one section only. Which bit do i fill out and not sign? Very confusing for a stupid person as it's mostly in welsh.
part 1: if you were the driver st the time of the alleged offence, just wants licence no.
part 2: if you were not blah blah, wants name address.
Appologies for askin dumb questions but i dont want to put my driver no. if i dont have to.

I was on the M4 in S wales the other day and my snooper detected radar (strength 3) pretty much all the way from the severn bridge to where i turned off (J29) and everyone's speed was around 70. But on the return strech i had no radar and everyone was traveling faster. So not quite sure what the score is there!! Saw nothing on the hard shoulder or on any bridges mind you.
Anyone know what may be the cause of this????? ( i know there are loads of CCTV cameras along the strech) And i dont think they can use mobile radar in moving cars but i may be wrong!

go to the location in question and check to see if the Scamera is coloured Yellow.

if not, take copious pictures and go to court.

illegal to have a camera that isn't visible.

if the camera is obscured from a drivers perspective, that too is outside of code.

in this case a picture might be worth it

I was havin a weekend away at the time so its not really possible for me to check the site, 5 hours each way! Dont expect to get away with it but if it was a bit iffy on their behalf its worth a try, they might offer an alternative penelty. Either way i'll make them earn the 60 sqid.

It just says A449 between coldra and kemys, from the date I know I would have been heading towards the M50 but we did a bit of sight seeing so could be wrong. I cant even find coldra or kemys on my map so have no better idea than that, thanks for the offer though slider.

Unfrotunatly it's not. The requirements for mobile ones are just

"Mobile speed camera users must be highly visible by wearing fluorescent clothing and their vehicles marked with reflective strips"

Actually pointing those stripes in the direction of the people that you are taking piccies of isn't in there, neither is that the whole van should be marketd - sorry. Hence you see a lot of vans with the stripes on the back, but the cameras coming out the side.

The actual press release is here
www.press.dtlr.gov.uk/pns/DisplayPN.cgi?pn_id=2001_0517

Critically in law these are still guidelines AFAIK (it says as much in the notes at the end of the press release - don't you just love "spin") - and hence if you are caught out by a camera that doesn't follow them you are legally still stuffed.....
