[rant on] Why have they put traffic lights in on the A413 between Great Missenden and Little Missenden!! And lowered the speed limit and narrowed the road at the same time.

Own up which local counciller lives down there???

A nice straight road (All be it on a hill) it was wide enough for people to make progress safely if you wanted to, has been lowered to 50mph at the roundabout and up the hill then on the other side as you come down its 30.
They've also put traffic lights in on the turning on the corner. (Why didn't they just make it a left hand turn and make people go up and round the roundabout)

I'm just waiting for the first accident from the badly designed road "improvement" at which point speed kills will be thrust down our throats a blanket 30mph speed introduced and scameras! [/rant off]

Sorry to hear it. Wonder how long it will take for the tide to turn, and limits go back *up* and/or beyond what they are now..?

Trying to work out exactly which bit of road this is. Is this the road which kind of bypasses Great Missendon with a bride to the church over it at it's highest point?

If so, then yes, this is a nice clear road. However, that particular stretch is downright dangerous - it's wide enough for 3 lanes, but only 2. People overtake in the middle of the road forcing oncoming cars over to the side. I have seen so so many drivers flying up/down the hill, over the brow which is slightly blind. I don't know how many accidents there have been on this stretch, but something needed doing before someone got killed.

However, lights seem a bit silly (not having seen them, I can only imagine) for a clear road like this. I think a central divider and rough surface along the centre of the road would have done the job.

A ray of hope from up north - we had an outbreak of NSL -> 40 (30 in one case) plus cameras but quite recently I noticed that several of the 40s have gone back up to NSL and the silly 30 is up to 40.

For any locals (or are you all soft southerners?) A6102 out of Sheffield and Denby Dale road, Scisset

The Highways Officer concerned will probably be found having committed suicide (topical?)

This is really bad news - grrr!!! That's a lovely bit of road, and Trefor is right - a central divide would've done the job.

We were on our way there the other day and we were tailgated by a scamera van at 70 mph on the A413 dual carriageway, just after it branches off from the A40. We were overtaking a row of Fiestas and Micras and this scamera van pulled out of the n/s lane and sat on our tail until we pulled in after completing our manoeuvre. Then it pulled in behind us and slowed right down again. What are these genii on???!

I wish I'd had my camera on me - the sight of the words "Safety enforcement" on the front of the van a foot off our back bumper would've been off to the papers rather quickly... Safety? Whose exactly??

The central divide is good but at the minute its very narrow i.e. Your lefthand side is almost in the gutter and doesn't leave you much room for manaover.
I can understand the central divide but not the speed limit drop to 50 and then 30!

There are a few roads in the area where I completely disagree with the speed limit imposed and drive at a speed I feel safe. Sounds like this is going to be another one. Naturally I am aware of my speeding and that I'm breaking the law and I'm 100% watching out for speed traps and police vehicles (and children on the road). An example of a road with a ridiculous limit is the 30mph limit from Henley towards Caversham.

However, this works both ways. A404 between High Wycombe and the M40. The bit closest to the M40, past the school and Leisure Centre is a NSL DC. 20m closer to Wycombe the limit is 40mph. I do 40ish along this section.

OK, so what happened then? Last time I drove along here about 2 months ago they had put traffic lights/calming in. Yesterday they were all gone. It was like the twilight zone - I thought I was going mad, traffic restrictions/obstacles being removed?

Any locals know the scoop?

what about the speed limits?

Oh yeah, the Macc to Leek road used to be NSL all the way, then went down to 50 with some 40s and 30's, now its back up to 60 with one 40

Limits still 60 (they hadn't quite put the lower limit in last time I passed, the signs were up, covered by plastic bags).

That will be the week after all the scameras have been removed and replaced with tax free petrol pumps selling super unleaded for 60p gallon.

Trefor/Phil,

Apparently the lights and calming were put in while work was carried out on the nearby railway bridge. The work is now complete so they've been removed.
