Was going down the A483/A5 towards south wales from Chester last week. Its quite a wide road, single carriageway but wide enough for both sides to overtake (sometimes!).

Anyway i noticed an unmarked silver BMW behind me who was leap frogging the traffic, it had blue lights behind the grille, but no extra aerials, mirrors etc - and only one occupant.

He seemed to be in more of a hurry than i, so i moved over and let him by, which he thanked me for, but then his moving through the traffic queue afterwards was less than inspired after that - e.g. using oncoming filter lanes, tailgating etc...

So that led me to think he probably wasn't BiB. Also there were no lights in the back of the car that i could see, unless the rear fogs had the capability to flash or whatever....

So my question, what other forces are likely to have an unmarked car of this pedigree?

Fire chiefs often have unmarked cars, but usually red or dark blue from what i have seen and they are not usually such a car. Likewise i don't think I have never seen an ambulance force using a beemer - and anyway ambulances are usually marked unless its a more senior guy who only gets out to the big accidents and not on a regular basis....

Any thoughts to what it could be?

Doesn't bother me in the slightest - but just wondered who would have the blue lights behind the grille, without any other obvious *emergency response* equipment - radio, in car camera, rear emergency lights, siren etc....

Perhaps it was just a beemer driver with two bits of blue plastic behind the grille to simulate lights so idiots like me would get out of his way!??

I used to work with a guy years ago whos dad was a very senior fire officer, as a "company" car he was allowed to take an allowance and pick his own as long as it was "practical" and "appropriate" it then went off to the garage and nee nars and blue under grill light fitted. He chose................a Lotus Carlton !

It could be the Chief constables motor, or even the assistant chief.
Our lot have a jag and an omega. They have blue lights concealed in the grille, and a kojak type stick on blue beacon which is magnetic for the roof.
