I'm interested to know what the situation in the UK would be concerning after-market accessories. It seems that fitting of non approved accessories to a motor vehicle can invalidate the vehicle type approval. This would also include ICE, cell phones, GPS etc as well. 'Approved' items having a [e11...] type marking.

Where would you stand if some delving 'loss adjuster' etc could prove the type approval was invalidated by something you had fitted?

I don't quite follow. So, if you go to an ICE dealer and have a new head unit fitted, declare it to your insurer etc etc, but the HU is really a badged Alpine from Indonesia with no 'type approval' or whatever, how does this invalidate anything or are you joking?

1) The electrical accessories fitted to vehicles become testable for their EC conformity during MOT tests.
2) You have an accident which is proven to be caused by your electrical apparatus which is non-conformant.

1 is a distinct possibiltiy (ie already happened in some countries)- not that they are testing them - just checking that they have/not the appropriate marking - and then failing the vehicle.

2 is different story altogether, although several car manufacturers are definately worried.
