Anti-scamera petition?

Originally posted this in response to Telegraph article thread on general section, but thought it was worth duplicating here.

As these fking cameras are adversely affecting so many people maybe it's about time we organised a petition against them.

Just imagine how many signatures you could get from the combined readership of every car and bike magazine (yes, even including Max Power etc), not forgetting of course web sites.

And as this goes way beyond car/bike enthusiasts, if worded properly you'd probably get plenty of the general public signing too. Not forgetting Telegraph staffers...

Would need to clear it with Ted, but we could have a downloadable pdf petition hosted on Pistonheads so everybody could print it off. Then all we'd need to do is contact all the magazines, papers etc. and point them and therefore their readers in the direction of Pistonheads.

Wouldnt it be better to get everone to fax their MP? Imagine if thousands of faxs were hitting MP's every day. There is a site for this, cant recall the URL at the mo.

Certainly another possibility. Turning up at No 10 with a mountain of paper always seems to have more impact (both political and media) though.

The turn up at number 10 with a van full of petitions does sound good though. Even the most pointless petitions served like this seem to get on the news.

And the point of the petition would be what?

That we don't like speed cameras and we should be able to drive as fast as we like despite the limits?

Or that the limits are too low?

The exact wording/thrust of it would need to be worked out. But the point would be to make it obvious to the government that a large chunk of the electorate are unhappy with the current policy regarding siting ever more speed cameras in 'low risk' locations and the increased introduction of inappropriately low speed limits.

Hopefully it'd be possible to get a large enough chunk to make the government worry about losing lots of votes because of it at the next election.

It would also give a big public fk off to the 'politically correct' speed kills brigade.

FaxYourMP are pretty clear that they don't want the service being used for mass bombardment. Besides, the MP will just turn the fax machine off.

Best way of doing that would be to scream it directly into the BBCs cameras as you walked away...
