As has been said elsewhere, good to see so many BiB on PH - long may it continue!

Anyway, just a thought having recently done the Met Bikesafe day which was great fun and educational (but my biggest take-out was that I'd love to have the authority to stop other idiot road users and bollock them )

How many of you ride bikes? The motorised kind that is!

Used to - got mashed up big time about 10 years ago, not been on one since.

Please note this was out of my own stupid riding and no one elses fault. oh yeah and the friggin council had been out throwing gravel on the road and not put any signs out.

Stig,

All Trafpols in the Met have to be able to ride Motorcycles.
On average, im on one about 3 days per month but there are Police that choose to ride them daily (The Bikesafe Team).

Some people prefer to drive around all day in a car but some much prefer it on a bike.

I do like both but if im totally honest i prefer to Drive.

Most of us have private bikes of our own which are totally different to ride than the "Job" ones.
Im in between bikes at the moment and wont get one as long as i have the TVR to keep my adrenalin pumping.

Essex Police got rid of all their motorcycle cops and horse division some years ago. Another cost cutting exercise - bit of a shame really.

I love riding job bikes, its one of the resons I joined traffic, however most of the time we can`t ride them due to so few TrafPols...
But there is not a lot that comes close to blue lighting it through Central London!!!!!

I did 20 years on Police bikes before a big accident (not my fault I hasten to add) forced me to retire on medical grounds.

Interesting you mention the Met Bikesafe, I have to examine 7 of their Bikesafe instructors on the 19th of this month, should be interesting.

Slightly O/T but while I was in SE London this afternoon I saw a little silver Vespa type moped thingy with a back box being riden by someone in Hi viz jacket and white helmet with checkered band, on the back of the hi viz they had written "POLICE SUPPORT" so my guess is they were some sort of community thingy or traffic whatsit. Anyway they were riding like a fool, I have honestly seen safer pizza delivery boys and in my opinion (I have an instructors ticket) they certainly weren't worthy of a full license. If this is the standard that the met expect from their staff, all be it "support" staff then some serious questions need to be asked.

I saw exactly the same thing this morning on the A4, probably the same bloke. You're right, he was riding along blithely unaware of his surroundings. I would have thought being tailgated by a lorry would make him get a move on.
