Bus running a red light

I saw a totally astonishing sight today.
A bus was travelling down a road towards a junction (staggered crossroads) with traffic lights.
Traffic light was red - bus stopped. Traffic light stayed red for maybe 15-20 secs. Bus driver obviously got fed up and started on his merry way!!!
Lights stayed red for another 30 secs or so, and I proceeded...
