Cameras causing jams
Discussion
Reading the thread about the M40 Talivan got me thinking about the camera on the Eastbound A40 outside B&Q (just East of Target Rdbt - the one with McDonalds
).
This camera regularly (ie every rush hour and more on top) causes traffic jams because 3 lanes of traffic all hit the anchors and you get the domino effect until traffic stops. Traffic then is flowing again by the Greenford Rdbt just down the road.
Does anyone know of a worse camera for this?!

The entire stretch of the A14 from Huntingdon, past Cambridge and on to the M11 is a bugger for this.
It was a slow road at the best of times before, but the amount of jams they get since they lined the entire route with cameras is ridiculous.

Ahhhhh - a well known speeding up point! After the Hanger lane camera everyone floors it - next camera not for a few miles and Gatsos can't be placed on the flyover or in the cutting.
Damn you Will Crash
(glad I've moved away from London, that used to be my commute!)

I've seen the hundreds of camera signs, but only very few actual cameras. My Road Angel confirms the lack of them, as does my lack of NIPs, despite some enthusiastic driving at times when there was little traffic.

Yes worse bit about this one is that it is on a downhill stretch. But to be fair Gridlock (sorry Transport) for London have also been doing their bit for road casualties on this road. Due to the tailbacks their bus lane on the A312 caused which spilled all the way back onto the A40 the inside lane of the A40 on both sides of the Target roundabout has become a slip lane. When this first happened it caused immense confusion and it was not uncommon to see people executing violent last minute manouevres to get out of the exit lane back onto the straight ahead lane. In fact not long after they did this I saw the yellow boards out for a fatal on the eastbound carriage way on the underpass of the Target roundabout. I don't know but the change in the road layout might have been a contributory factor in this accident. Just last week on the westbound carriage way someone managed to park their car on it's side in the bushes just after the Target roundabout. The inside lane under the underpass (if you see what I mean) has now become a de facto hard shoulder.
In my experience in the evenings this new layout causes the jams. Once you're past this you can then accelerate up to the gatso by B&Q, then brake, then accelerate again, before braking again if Will is in his van.
You should be careful accelerating into the 50MPH limit. I sit underneath the Target R`bout on the EAST and WEST bound A40 pror to B&Q (site of another Fatal)
The fatal you mentioned prior to the Target was apparently caused by a humungus speed and a wet road, the car in question went sideways through one of the huge direction signs at the side of the A40.
Just be careful you never know who`s watching....!!!

There was another fatal I was thinking of before that, but can't remember exactly when it was. I'll look out for you, you'll be wearing white with dayglo yellow stripes. I'll be wearing silver with a black top.
