NIP from forward facing FLASHING camera
Discussion
NIP: Just got it via my company, I was flashed right in my eyes through Sandy, Beds on Tuesday 29th July. 74mph in a 60 limit
I was travelling from Basingstoke up to Peterborough at the time and on approaching Sandy I slowed up to suit the conditions (Heavy rain, dual carriageway with residential properties close to the road 55mph). I then move to the outside lane and accelerate to approx 72mph to overtake two lorries. I am not aware of the change from NSL to 60mph and am shown the reality when passing the second lorry a huge light blinds me from the front!! Yes pssing rain and no vision at 72. I immediately slow to around 45 mph and try to figure everything. I was led to believe that the forward facing cameras are infrared and do not flash.
The NIP has been sent back from the company with my details, which in turn will be sent through to my house. I have read through PH about not signing the NIP; however, I believe that if the camera got me from the front, surely they will be able to have a clear view of the driver.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated at this point.

Ever tried taking a picture through the rain of a wet window with a dark interior, let alone a moving at speed wet windscreen?
I would *seriously* doubt there is a good picture of you if this is a night-time shot. Time to ask for a picture so you can verify who was driving
Any of the BiB care to mention?
I would also be careful about not signing a NIP - your company may take a very dim view and treat it as gross misconduct etc. Speak to the fleet manager for advice
I'll not comment on the legal issues of not signing due to countless other threads.

As far as I'm aware, it's illegal for the BiB to send out NIPs from the foward flash of a Gatso, specifically because of the danger of blinding from the flash causing an accident. Could any of the PH BiB back this up? Whe the cameras do flash, I believe that it's down to inadequate software.
I didnt see the 60mph sign on the left hand side of the carriageway due to one of the two HGV's that I was overtaking, blocking the sign. Cooperman, can you confirm if there is a 60 mph sign on the central reservation entering that area or just on the outside of the carriage way as I think this may help my case.
I assumed that it was still NSL at this point.
BTW I was travelling Northbound, it was the first camera as you leave the Biggleswade Sainsbury's roundabout.

'Fraid it isn't....illegal that is..
There may be a safety issue though...
Is this and inductive loop/piezoelectric triggered device (lines in road before the camera) or radar activated ?
Truvelos are the former and the newer models use an infra red flash to avoid blinding white light. The odd Gatso can also be set to be triggerred by the inductive loop method etc and that will still flash with a white light. Don't believe there's too many of those though...
