Article in local rag that 2 coppers from nearby force (N Yorks) sucessfully argued that they were not speeding cos the gatso sign was not "prescribed".

Apparantly 2 types of yellow sign showing camera and speed limit, one approved and one not. They argued that under Road Traffic Act the sign and hence speed limit was invalid and won!

Interesting to see what happens to those already convicted?

Very interesting web site. I liked the statement at the bottom of the page

"Safe Speed - exposing stupidity in government"

Tony Bliar is doing a good job of that without the Safespeed web site

Convicted of what? Pressumably the case was built round it being a 50 zone which appears was not the case

If they appeal and are found to have been convicted due to illegal signage then it should (and note the word should) be overturned as unsafe.

The hypocracy of it, there was some guy from the council talking bout it being immoral and wanting disciplinary action against the officers. All for doing 58 & 60 in an area his council couldnt be bothered to ensure the signs were right before taking money/licences off the public!

Shouldn't the council leader be tendering his resignation due to the potentially EXPLOSIVE and certainly expensive situation that his bodging council have created?
