I was the passenger in one of my business partners' car today and witnessed a, thankfully non-fatal accident. How the two lads in the car survived is entirely thanks to the battery of safety equipment fitted to the Saab they were driving.

The accident (which I will not describe) unfolded directly in front of us...

We stopped...I helped the shocked lads away from their car and looked after them whilst my colleague phoned the Emergency Services...and we waited until they arrived so we could give our names as witnesses and ensure the lads didn't wander off into the traffic in their state of shock.

They were bleeding from their ears (airbags?) and had some very unpleasant, though thankfully not life-threatening, injuries.

To say it was shocking and upsetting is quite an understatement. My respect goes out to the professionals who deal with this on a daily basis.

I really, really thought I was going to see a fatal RTA.

Gut-wrenching.

Could have been avoided with some simple driving techniques and an attitude adjustment...

Be careful out there people, eh? Keep it shiny side up and on the black stuff. It was bad enough keeping mildly injured people calm. I don't ever want to have to deal with worse....

Thats one thing that you never quite get used too......not nice at all.

Sometimes i think that if more people saw this type of carnage then it might make them drive a little more responsibly.

Was this the one on the westbound carriageway between 7 and 8/9?

Looked nasty with a scorched reck lying in the field.

What happened?

It was on the westbound carriageway...but just a few hundred yards from the Marlbourough exit...

No car in field...ended up on the hard shoulder...

I don't want to say too much as I'd prefer to give the details to the cops first so as not to prejudice any proceedings...should they happen...

All I can say is that there wasn't a straight panel on the car after it rolled....

Don,
I can understand what you are saying, RTA's are not nice things. I have dealt with many of them, lots being fatacs. You will not forget what you have seen today, but will be able to deal with it by being positive, by taking the factors into account, and of course in the knowledge that the occupants survived.
It certainly shakes you up, and as a consequence I am never blase about things on the roads.
Remain positive, have a beer.
It certainly makes you appreciate your kids / wife / family when you see it happen in front of you.
Regards and all the best.
Mike.

Mungo, you're so sweet! A big girly bow on your car! That's so 'new man'! Bless....

(then ducks for cover in case mungo sees this)

Incidentally, being there does make you pause for thought.....
