It's impossible to know whether the trafpol car you're about to overtake is sympathetic to the cause, so how about the good guys putting PH stickers on their cars ?

You don't need a PH sticker, you just need the right handshake - proactively.

You will find that most Trafpols are sympathetic to the cause but one thing thats sure to get you stopped is to take the P**s in front of them,,,know what i mean.

As far as putting stickers on the cars...hmmm....we would need a load of stickers because at our garage we have about 25 marked cars and we take a different one out each day to swap them around.
Normally only 3 or 4 cars out at any one time.

On the subject of identification, is there anyway (and TonyRec (or similar) is prob best to answer this) to identify an unmarked police car. Probably a bit of a strange question, and I’m not saying that I do anything wrong, bit I would like to know when I’m pushing that envelope of 71mph and a little late getting to work, appointment, etc… that I’m not just about to pass an unmarked car....

I’ve heard of the usual, no stickers in any windows, no dealership details on number plate, more than 1 aerial/internal mirror, large box type thing on parcel shelf (containing lights).

Any more…? I will understand if this is a question, which you do not want to answer…

The new bread of unmarked cars is totally different from the old ones.

Speaking about the new ones that i drive, they have stickers in the windows and the name of our fleet company/repaires on the plates so they now look like any other plate on any other car.

What i would tend to look for is........a camera of some sort either from the front/rear window, strobes on the back shelf or front grill area (you can see them if you look hard enough) and of course....a professional driver at the wheel.

Tony, do they still have two rearview mirrors? (normally placed to look like one extra large one).

Epalettes(sp?) on the occupants shoulders.

look out for the positioning of the on the road and lines they take.

they stick out a mile from the ofer road users.
all so it rare too see one driver alone all ways in two`s normaly

or beter still sit round back of the station now and then to check out the car pool

Our unmarked cars dont have 2 internal mirrors, instead the passenger rear view is mounted on the n/s wing mirror. Much better here as i believe that 2 have 2 mirrors inside its a distraction.

Come to think about it, only 1 of our marked cars has 2 internal rear view mirrors and not many poeple enjoy driving it.

I know what you mean about road positioning. I work just down the road from a place Nr MK, where the bib meet to start and end their driver training (in a cafe). And I quite often see 2 white vectra's with 4 people in each flying up and down the road, doing training...

You really can spot the road positioning a mile off (at least I did when these two cars where coming towards me)

Any chance of leaving your hats on and a yellow jacket in the back window?

Many of times have I come past only to be followed by a couple of plain looking cars (4 up in each) having just left 'The S/S' only to be passed about 400 yards later as the A5 opens up, and then proceed to disappear into the distance....

I'm soooo tempted to give chase sometimes.....

Much easier idenification than that. Just look for the large traffic jam of cars doing 69mph, usually in a huddle surrounding the car, trying not to look illegal (sorry trying not to take the p*ss). And the one car in the middle of the rush hour that actually has nowhere to make it to in any sort of time limit.

I gave chase once

It was in north wales, the car was a "middle" shape mondeo with stickers on the back say police driver training, or something.... I was coming back from site and they were giving it some.

I decided to give chase for two reasons....

1) figured it would get me home quicker - they were too busy to nick me (i hoped! )

2) Thought i might learn something while i was there - i.e. follow their lines through corners etc....

A lot of fun and i covered ground with them very quickly, i was careful to conciously keep at least 2 seconds behind at all times though becuase i didn't know exactly what they were up to and i figured it was a pupil driving (two more in back).

They were in much more of a hurry than me and besides i didn't want to push my luck, so i turned off after 20 miles or so and went a different route, but i felt i picked some tips up....
