...to get flashed by a cameraon the opposite side of the road? A friend of mine thinks they may have tripped a camera on the A66, the camera in questtion on the nearside of the westbound lane, pointing westbound, while they were in the outside lane heading eastbound.

Is this feasible, or is it more likely a coincidence and that there was someone else heading the other way that tripped it (apparently there were other cars going the other way), and if it was my mate thay tripped it, will they still be done for it, or will the central reservation have obscured their numberplate?

There is one particular camera hidden behind a tree when you are coming into Barnet from Potters Bar(A1000). It quite often flashes as you approach it from the wrong direction, even if I am the only car anywhere near it. There are no road markings on the "wrong" side so I assume it would not count?

Having said that it is a "safety" camera so maybe it flashes as it knows what I am about to do

The northbound camera on the A23 outside Brighton town centre always seems to flash me when I'm travelling southbound. Don't think they can do anything about it though! Another wasted piece of film

In the days when I travveled the A3 into London in the early morning the camera just after the Roehampton traffic lights (Southbound) used to flash as I drove Northbound. No traffic on its side of the road though - Streaky

If the camera was on the oposite side of the road then chances are very high that they will be OK . Even if they triggered it themselves you don't normally get a prosecution in those situations.

Well, as I say, there was apparently traffic on the other side of the road, they are absolutely bricking it now though!

The stories usually end with no one being prosecuted.

BUT you can be done in these exact circumstances, whether by Truvelo or Gatso. It's very rare, but it does happen. It's also of dubious legality.

My girlfriend has three points on her licence to prove it.
