Not sure if it was on PH that I read warnings before - but here is a timely reminder not to take your detector to France:

www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2003380851,00.html

It is against French law to even carry such an item in the car - plugged in or not....

It is well known that French Police target UK cars because they know we carry them - then they ask if you have one. Answering with a simple 'yes' lands you in deep

As I'm off in a motorcaravan to France next week, I don't need to take mine

Problem is the drive to the Channel Ports. I am going to Spain and France in October. Cant face the drive to Dover without my trusty Valentine 1.

I'll just have to bury it deep into the boot while in France.

I have heard that if you pay for your Toll Roads with Credit card they can check the times and send you a bill for speeding at a later date. Still in my Wife's 1.8 Cavalier (How much booze can you get in the boot?) we drove just under 200 miles in just over 2 hours on an empty toll road at 6 am one saturday in may and paid cash at every booth. She was asleep otherwise it would have taken a little longer !

Calais cop made a Brit drive over his Geodesy, even though it's useless in the land of the frog.

But what about the return journey up through England?

I take mine off the screen, bury it in dirty underpants, together with the screen sucker wotsit and cable. I also give the screen a quick wipe so there are not telltale sucker marks. Gives me something to do in the channel tunnel once I've cleaned the flies off the screen.

So even GPS systems are illegal? Who do we need to attack in our spineless government to overcome such intelligence?

I don't know if GPS systems are illegal in France, but they would be pointless due to the fact that they don't have Gatsos/Fixed Speed cameras. It's just the fact that a Geodey "Looks" like a radar detector, and you try explaining in French the differance between GPS and Radar - Shouting it in English won't help either - IT'S GPS!! You know G P S!! NOT RADAR, YOU KNOW RAY-DAR!!! (mutter - bl**dy French Police).

Cheers.

Web Watcher.

Er, the French Government you mean. Our cops know the difference.

I have been trying to find one that will do both camera location and navigation in one unit. You could then show them the GPS navigation bit with maps etc to prove it's not a radar detector.

Unfortunately it seems you need to get a PDA and a seperate GPS receiver and some software to be able to do it at the moment.

Not sure you really need a detector in France! Got back on Sunday from Italy to Calais, did last 460miles (mulhouse to check in at docks) in about 5hours. Generally sitting at 100-110 (till banker in X5 - Brit- thought he could hog outside lane and bully everyone out of his way - left hand flasher, get out the way and quick bust to 135).

Saw two cops the whole time and paid cash at tolls!
